What are the responsibilities and job description for the Ultrasound Tech position at Steinberg Diagnostic Medical Imaging?
SUMMARY:
The Ultrasound Technologist performs duties under the direction of the Radiologist, Technical Director, and Lead/Chief Technologist. May perform other job related duties as necessary for the efficient operation of SDMI.
MINIMUM SKILLS, ABILITY AND REQUIREMENTS:
· A graduate from an accredited ultrasound school or sufficient job experience.
· Any employee who discovers, is directly involved in or is responding to an event/occurrence/risk is required to complete or direct the completion of an occurrence report within 24 hours of event/occurrence/risk.
· My job performance, including current competencies will be reviewed by my supervisor on a periodic basis. If my job performance/ current competencies are not (or continue to not be) at required level this could result in additional training and/or disciplinary action.
- ARDMS certification eligible plus additional specialty test preferred. Must meet ACR certification requirements to have at least one of the following certifications: ARDMS, AB, OB/GYN, PS or RVT.
· Performance of routine ultrasound exams.
· Maintains policies and protocols for Ultrasound department.
· Responsible for overseeing the function of all Ultrasound departments.
· Responsible for all Quality Assurance ultrasound exams.
· Completing patient paperwork.
• Aide in the clinical experience and teaching of Ultrasound students.
• Immediately report any machine malfunction or repairs to Chief, Lead and/or the appropriate service engineers.
• Follow appropriate ACR protocols and guidelines for all ultrasound exams.
· Communicating with the radiologists and staff about intradepartmental and patient exams.
· Utilizing advanced knowledge in a clinical setting of ultrasound physics and instrumentation as applicable to the setting.
· Utilizing advanced knowledge of ultrasound terminology relation to appropriate exams.
· Utilizing expertise and knowledge of ultrasound scanning techniques for each appropriate exam.
· Skill in organizing time to accommodate changes in workload and assignments in order to complete tasks in a timely manner.
· Skill to pay attention to details and accuracy in completing tasks.
· Awareness of responsibility to protect patient information. Even casual conversation with other employees may be overheard, whereby, violating the patient’s right to privacy (patient confidentiality).
· Respond positively to changes in assignments and priorities.
· Able to identify hazardous material in immediate work area.
· Know and follows all SDMI safety and evacuation guidelines, policies and procedures.
· Comply with Universal Protection standards.
· Willingly participates in cross-training activities within the department for own professional growth in order to contribute to the overall function of SDMI.
· Assume responsibility for updating knowledge of current SDMI department policies and procedures, protocol and practices.
· Demonstrate punctuality by reporting to work on time/satisfactory attendance record that complies with SDMI attendance policy.
· Take full responsibility for all functions within job description and assure that all functions are completed before leaving SDMI at the end of the shift. Communicate effectively when follow up is needed.
· Other duties as assigned.
