Description
Overall Responsibilities: Generate and develop innovative design solutions for Public, Government, and Department of Defense projects, leading the interior design on multiple interior design projects simultaneously from Conceptual Design through Schematics, Design Development, and Construction Documentation. Drive design and documentation processes forward with only intermittent oversight and direction. Lead all design efforts and client presentations with a focus on compliance of client standards.
Design Leadership
- Originate innovative solutions to complex design problems through the development and presentation of these ideas.
- Work simultaneously on multiple projects, including large, complex government facilities.
- Coordinate with the larger team and design consultants to present and develop design intent through all phases while continually monitoring drawings throughout the process.
- Lead Interiors technical viewpoint & work closely with Project Architect to ensure that construction documents are consistent with design intent and meet the firm’s BIM standards.
- Provide design guidance and oversight so that projects meet the Firm's design standards, while protecting the Firm against errors and omissions liability.
- Facilitate high-level coordination with stakeholders, including government agencies, end-users, and subcontractors, to balance client needs with budget and timeline constraints.
- Prepare cost proposals and manage budgets for interiors and furniture scopes, ensuring alignment with Best Value Determination (BVD), General Services Administration (GSA) pricing guidelines, and overall project budget.
- General understanding of, and ability to communicate attributes of, sustainable architectural systems.
- Research, select, and document the overall interiors package for a variety of architectural projects, including but not limited to:
- Programming
- Space Planning & Code Standards
- Concept & color palette development
- Interior Finishes
- Furniture & Furniture Finishes
- Fixture and Equipment Selection
- Millwork & Interior Detailing
Overall Leadership
- Enhance the Firm's reputation by delivering innovative and compliant design solutions tailored to government and military facilities.
- Maintain strong, respectful relationships with industry professionals, including government contractors, vendors, and consultants.
- Lead stakeholder meetings and client presentations, ensuring client satisfaction and alignment.
- Demonstrate expertise in consultant coordination, ensuring seamless integration of interior design components with broader architectural and engineering systems.
- Stay abreast of design trends of specific project types and take initiative for providing continuing education opportunities for design staff.
- Represent the Firm by actively participating in external professional organizations and office social functions to attract talented design staff.
- Support the Firm’s marketing and business development activities by attending project interviews though involvement in community and civic organizations.
Requirements
- Minimum 10 years (15-20 years preferred)
- Bachelors’ Degree in Interior Design or Interior Architecture.
- NCIDQ certified required.
- Experience in Public Sector projects including State & Local Government facilities and Department of Defense projects.
- Substantial experience in interior design, documentation and detailing on a wide variety of project types.
- Experience dealing with governmental agencies and building codes related to interior design.
- Excellent graphic, verbal and written communication skills, as well as excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Presentation preparation and presentation skills to client groups of varying sizes.
- Expert knowledge of FF&E, color and materials.
- Expert knowledge of furniture systems and specifications.
- Knowledge of Design-Build process a plus.
- LEED or similar sustainability accreditation a plus.
- Expert Proficiency in relevant computer software:
- Building Information Modeling: Revit 2020 or later
- Adobe Creative Suite: InDesign, Photoshop, etc.
- Microsoft Office
- Adobe Acrobat or Bluebeam
- Working Proficiency in modeling software a plus:
- Rhino or SketchUp
- Rendering: Enscape, 3D Studio Max, Maxwell Render, or Twinmotion
