SUMMARY

The Accountant / Financial Analyst plays a critical role in maintaining the surgery center's financial integrity. This position prepares and manages financial records to accurately track assets, liabilities, revenue, expenses, and tax obligations. By maintaining general ledger accounts and applying Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), the Accountant / Financial Analyst ensures the accuracy and reliability of financial transactions.

This role requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to review financial information thoroughly. The ideal candidate will support financial decision-making by conducting in-depth analysis and ensuring compliance with financial policies and regulations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO :

Financial Reporting & Accounting

  • Performs general cost accounting and maintains the organization's financial records.
  • Prepares monthly balance sheets, income statements, and profit & loss statements.
  • Maintains the general ledger, ensuring accurate coding of invoices, account reconciliations, and month-end close activities.
  • Manages month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes, including journal entries and budget-to-actual reports.
  • Prepares monthly and annual financial statements, supporting analyses, and supplemental schedules.
  • Assists in preparing financial data for regulatory agencies, including Medicare, Medicaid, state cost reports, and OrthoForum / Connect Surveys.
  • Reconciles intercompany accounts and posts necessary adjusting journal entries.
  • Prepare schedules and reports for external reviewers, auditors, and contractors (e.g., RSM).

Financial Analysis & Budgeting

  • Provides financial analysis support to Managers for monitoring operating expenses, budgeting, balance sheets, capital expenditures, and cost / benefit analyses.
  • Collaborate with staff to establish best practices for financial analysis and documentation.
  • Prepares and analyzes operating budgets, revenue by payer, expenses, cash flow, and other key financial metrics.
  • Design and completes reports to enhance operations and identify financial issues.
  • Contributes to business case analyses and special projects as needed.
  • Accounts Payable, Payroll & Tax Compliance

  • Responsible for Accounts Payable processing and reconciliation.
  • Oversees Payroll and ensures compliance with 401(k) and Profit-Sharing plans.
  • Verifies and processes invoice payments, ensuring proper account allocation.
  • Files tax forms with federal, state, and local government agencies.
  • Banking & Cash Management

  • Reconciles bank accounts monthly, verifies deposits, and addresses inquiries from financial institutions.
  • Reconciles cash disbursement accounts, payroll accounts, and customer accounts.
  • Manages accounts receivable collections and ensures timely payments.
  • Fixed Assets & Inventory

  • Maintains fixed asset records, including documentation of acquisitions / disposals and depreciation / amortization calculations.
  • Assists in monitoring and ensuring the inventory system functions properly.
  • General & Administrative

  • Coordinates with software vendors to maintain and improve accounting software systems.
  • Adheres to HIPAA and confidentiality policies and procedures.
  • Assists with developing and maintaining accounting / finance policies and workflows.
  • Acts as a Finance representative in meetings and on committees as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) or management.

  • Requirements

    QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field (MBA preferred but not required).
  • CPA certification is a plus but not required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant accounting or finance experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Windows, Word, and Excel; experience with QuickBooks is preferred but not required.
  • Strong understanding of general financial accounting, cost accounting, and GAAP compliance.
  • Ability to accurately prepare tax reports.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently to achieve goals and prioritize work assignments.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK :

    This is a full-time position with standard business hours : Monday through Friday, 8 : 00 a.m. to 5 : 00 p.m. However, work hours may vary based on company needs.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT :

    This job operates in a professional office environment and routinely involves standard office equipment, such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.
