Field Engineer

General Purpose of the Position : The purpose of this position is to assist in engineering, installation, and daily operations of OSP / ISP network to include the preparation of design fiber splicing engineering for either aerial and / or underground fiber cables.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities :
- Works Directly with Manager of OSP Network Operations in the day-to- day OSP / ISP Operations.
- Installation, splicing, testing, and documentation of fiber optic cables ISP / OSP.
- Maintains the security and maintenance of the OSP network, either aerial or underground.
- Utilizes a variety of systems for the processing and reporting of work activities, inventorying OSP POP facilities, documentation of restoration materials in stock.
- Included but not limited to new customers lateral network buildouts, existing fiber facility relocations, and new OSP construction.
- Maintains fiber splice records, network topography records (kmz files) and fiber mapping as-built drawings.
- Work closely with Senior OSP Network Engineer’s during emergency restoration and mitigation activities required for the OSP Superloop Network.
- Performs critical functions within the network repair and restoration process. To restore network connectivity to all Customers on the Superloop Network.
- Utilize industry standard cable test procedures and equipment for various cabling systems (OTDR, Network Analyzer, Visual Fault Locator).
- Creation of design layout record (D.L.R.) for all installations within a web based environment.
- Provide world class customer service to all customers and vendors.
- Ability to install network hardware such as switches, routers, wireless access points, microwave radios, servers, media converters and other telecommunications transport equipment.
- Ability to install premise equipment throughout our datacenter and offsite facilites such as structured cabling, patch panels, wire management systems, PDU’s, and other equipment. Other Duties :
- Travel within the territory and / or regional territory as needed.
- Provide routine feedback on existing company processes and opportunities for improvement.
Required Job Skills :
Computer Equipment and Software :
Microsoft Office, Excel and Outlook, Microsoft VISIO Education and Experience : Certification : A , N , Fiber Installation Certification, Tower Climbing Certification, Confined Space Certification, Cable Manufacturer Certification Education : High School diploma or equivalent.
Experience : 3-5 years’ experience with fiber optic outside plant network design, installation, and documenting. Also, experience working in critical data environments (data centers, central offices, POP / ILA locations).
