Introduction
A state education agency is seeking a seasoned Technical Writer to join its team supporting the Texas Student Data System (TSDS). This role will focus on producing clear, accessible technical documentation for external users and internal teams, as well as providing support during peak data submission periods. Ideal candidates will bring a strong background in technical writing, software documentation, and stakeholder communication in an educational or public sector environment.
What You’ll Be Doing
Creating accurate, user-friendly documentation for TSDS applications including promotion logic guides, known issues logs, and release notes
Collaborating with product owners and cross-functional teams to gather and verify content
Supporting customer outreach efforts by capturing and reporting feedback from education agencies
Researching and implementing best practices for documenting internal Jira workflows and product processes
Training team members on documentation standards and supporting internal content consistency
Ensuring compliance with accessibility and agency standards in all written materials
What You Bring to the Table
8 years of technical writing experience, including software-related documentation
Strong skills in Jira and familiarity with the software development lifecycle
Demonstrated excellence in writing for both technical and non-technical audiences
Experience gathering information through interviews, tickets, and live feedback
Background in customer support and communicating user concerns to leadership
Proven ability to train and guide teams on documentation standards and internal practices
Preferred: Familiarity with TSDS and state education data
