Position Overview:
We are seeking a skilled and experienced individual to join our team as a Mid-Level Archaeologist Crew Chief. In this key leadership role, you will be responsible for overseeing archaeological field crews, coordinating excavation activities, and contributing to the documentation of significant archaeological sites. The ideal candidate will bring expertise in fieldwork, strong leadership skills, and a commitment to advancing archaeological research and preservation.
Responsibilities:
- Fieldwork Leadership:
- Lead and supervise archaeological field surveys and excavations, ensuring adherence to project methodologies and safety protocols.
- Provide guidance and training to field crew members, promoting efficiency and high standards of work.
- Direct the identification and documentation of archaeological sites.
- Excavation and Site Management:
- Coordinate and oversee excavation efforts, implementing advanced methodologies and strategies.
- Manage site logistics, including equipment deployment, safety measures, and resource allocation.
- Contribute to the development of excavation plans and methodologies.
- Data Collection and Documentation:
- Oversee the collection, documentation, and preservation of artifacts and samples.
- Ensure accuracy and completeness of field notes, records, and photographic documentation.
- Lead the preparation of detailed field reports and documentation.
- Team Coordination:
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary project teams, providing leadership and fostering a collaborative work environment among crew members.
- Communicate effectively with project managers and senior archaeologists to ensure project objectives are met.
- Training and Development:
- Mentor and provide training to junior archaeologists and crew members.
- Conduct training sessions to enhance the skills and knowledge of the team.
- Contribute to the professional development of junior staff.
Qualifications (Education and Experience):
- Bachelor's degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or a related field.
- 2 - 3 years of experience in archaeological fieldwork, with proven experience in a crew chief or leadership role.
- Strong leadership and team coordination skills.
- Demonstrated expertise in archaeological excavation methodologies and field techniques.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in relevant archaeological software and technologies.
