The Mechanical Apprentice will assist in the installation, maintenance, and repair of mechanical systems. This role offers hands-on training for individuals looking to develop their skills and advance in the Mechanical and piping industry. The apprentice will work closely with experienced journeymen, gaining practical knowledge and ensuring compliance with industry standards and safety regulations.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Assist in the installation of mechanical systems, including piping and its components, equipment setting, and system start-up
- Use appropriate hand and power tools to accurately measure, cut, assemble, and install all types of pipe and/or similar tubular products
- Test installed piping systems and install all other related items in accordance with the applicable plans and specifications
- Work closely with experienced journeymen to gain practical knowledge
- Participate in hands-on training sessions
- Maintain accurate records of work performed and materials used
- Follow jobsite safety and maintain a safe and clean work area
- Learn and utilize pipefitting and welding techniques for different piping systems including butt weld, socket weld, fusion, groove, or threading
- Other duties as assigned
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Basic understanding of mechanical systems and components
- Ability to assist in the installation, maintenance, and repair of mechanical units
- Strong problem-solving skills
- Ability to follow instructions and work under the supervision of a journeyman
- Physical stamina and dexterity to handle tools and materials
- Basic knowledge of safety procedures and protocols
- Effective communication skills
- Ability to work in various environmental conditions
Education/Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Basic understanding of mechanical systems and components
- Ability to follow technical instructions and diagrams
- Strong problem-solving skills
- OSHA 10-hour certification preferred
Travel Requirements:
- Anticipated 100% travel to project sites nationwide
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to wear and utilize all required personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time
- Bend, kneel, and crouch for extended periods
- Ability to perform repetitive movements
- Ability to move in and around confined and cluttered places and uneven areas
- Ability to lift, carry, and move objects weighing up to and exceeding 50 pounds
- Adequate vision to perform all required tasks
- Work on ladders, scaffolding, and rooftops
- Comfortable with heights and able to climb and descend safely
- Strong sense of balance and spatial awareness
