Job Title: Database Administrator
Location: Remote
This role is NOT for a DB2 DBA-only candidates with demonstrated IMS DBA experience will be considered.
What You'll Do
As the IMS DBA, you'll be the technical lead responsible for maintaining and optimizing IMS application databases and ensuring their availability, reliability, and performance across development, acceptance, and production environments. Your role will be instrumental in supporting both legacy systems and the agency's broader mainframe transformation strategy.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide advanced-level support and maintenance of IMS databases on the z/OS mainframe platform.
- Perform DBRC forward recovery, point-in-time recovery, and utilize IBM IMS utilities for data integrity and uptime.
- Lead performance tuning, database reorganizations, and backup/recovery processes.
- Collaborate with application teams to support deployment workflows and resolve DBRC-related issues.
- Refresh and restore Dev/Test environments with production data images when required.
- Support batch processing, CICS transactions, and COBOL/JCL operations as part of production control efforts.
- Coordinate with DCS vendors on mainframe upgrades, disaster recovery testing, and compliance.
- Assist programmers and support personnel with IMS-related debugging and technical resolution.
- Provide on-call support for overnight batch processes and high-priority incidents.
Required Experience & Skills
To be successful in this role, you must have hands-on expertise in IMS database administration with a broad understanding of z/OS mainframe environments and application support.

Preferred Qualifications
While not required, the following skills are a strong plus and will help you stand out:
Experience with IPPrintway and mainframe printer configuration
- Exposure to ISPF panels, skeletons, and REXX automation
- Working knowledge of ISMF storage functions
- Batch SFTP/FTPS scripting capabilities
- Experience with Informatica Power Exchange for IMS/VSAM datasets
- Understanding of logically related IMS databases
