Summary:
- A leading medical device client is in immediate need of a Packaging Engineer for a 12-month project. This consultant will be responsible for developing and analyzing packaging, products, materials, processes, or equipment in relation to due diligence and integration activities for external acquisitions. With minimal supervision, they gather, analyze, and report operational, test, and research data to establish performance standards for newly designed or modified packaging, products, processes, or materials.
- This is a fully-onsite position in the Minneapolis/St. Paul twin cities area.
Responsibilities:
- Contribute to due diligence and integration activities as needed.
- Actively engage in and make valuable contributions to project teams, including tasks such as packaging/product design and development, material testing, specification preparation, process capability studies, report creation, and process/test documentation.
- Ensure proposed packaging design changes are thoroughly analyzed, with proper justification and data collection to verify performance requirements.
- Independently plan and schedule activities to meet project deadlines.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including project management, quality, R&D, manufacturing, regulatory, operations, and marketing, to ensure project success.
- Partner with external suppliers to design, qualify, and source packaging components.
- Conduct packaging testing and bench studies to support commercial design improvements.
- Participate in resource planning and help develop and integrate new team members for supporting due diligence and integration efforts.
- Prepare packaging-related documentation, including test protocols and reports.
- Perform root cause analysis for design, material, or process failures.
- Analyze test results, summarize findings, and draw conclusions.
- Design, procure, and fabricate necessary tooling and fixtures.
- Train technicians or operators on new processes or test procedures as needed.
- Identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
- Stay informed on new technologies and trends in the packaging industry.
Requirements:
- B.S. degree in Packaging.
- Three to four years of experience in Packaging Engineering, with preference for medical device-related experience.
- Working knowledge of materials such as paperboard, corrugated, flexible packaging films, Tyvek, thermoformed trays, injection molded parts, and packaging equipment; knowledge of capital systems and crate packaging is a plus.
- Familiarity with ASTM and ISTA packaging testing standards.
- Experience in packaging process and equipment qualification.
- Excellent communication skills (oral, written, and virtual).
- Proven problem-solving abilities.
- Quality-focused, with a strong work ethic, high motivation, and attention to detail.
- Strong multitasking abilities, managing multiple projects and deadlines effectively.
- Understanding of quality system controls (e.g., user needs, design inputs/outputs, verification/validation, etc.).
