The Organization
Beginning as a leadership, peer support, and creative expression group for youth in the child welfare system in 1988, Step By Step has transformed into a vibrant array of programs for all ages and backgrounds. Our mission is to initiate, coordinate, and facilitate activities/programs that respond to community-identified needs and to provide access to various resources and services within our communities in Kanawha, Lincoln, and Logan counties. To ensure our communities reach their full potential, we offer free programs, services, and resources, such as Afterschool, Summer Programming, Parents as Teachers, Family Support Centers, and other vital services.
The Program
Step by Step’s Family Support Centers exist to provide leadership, educational support, resources, and quality programs that strive to engage and empower families. Our goal is to ensure those we serve have the necessary life skills, information, and education for the betterment of our communities.
The Position
The Director is responsible for the day-to-day operation of Step by Step’s Family Support Center in Logan County, which has supplemental sites and mobile resources for the SBS 21 Century Afterschool sites. The Director will serve the geographic area of Logan County. Services are voluntary and available to all families. The Director leads efforts to support families and reduce stressors, empowering parents and caregivers to nurture, protect, and educate their children. The Director will work to reduce child abuse and neglect.
Duties and Responsibilities
Recruitment
- Coordinate family and student outreach for the FSC program with other SBS program directors, school administrators, and their designees
- Recruit and enroll program participants to meet grant requirements
- Distribute FSC and Afterschool (ASP) program marketing materials and enrollment applications
- Distribute employment marketing materials and employment applications
- Recruit and interview staff members
- Support the ongoing recruitment of volunteers
Client Assistance and Case Management
- As needed, assist clients in enrolling for resources and services offered at the FSC and partner organizations
- Maintain and manage confidential case files and records, ensuring accurate documentation and verification of all documents
- Utilize Square and other online applications for data entry purposes
- Network with external organizations to establish and maintain appropriate partnership
Program Management
- Ensure operations at the Logan County Family Support Center run smoothly Monday-Friday.
- Supervise and coach staff members
- Facilitate regular staff meetings
- Create and maintain FSC resources for families in the communities
- Ensure FSC and other shared facility spaces are well-maintained and left as found
- Ensure smooth implementation of grant requirements and compliance with the approved program structure
- Coordinate with other Step by Step, Inc. programs and initiatives as appropriate
- Participate in all requested meetings, training, and activities organized by Step by Step
- Comply with all Step by Step site policies and procedures
- Coordination with the Executive Director to make sure the grant narrative interventions are being completed
Communication and Collaboration
- Develop positive relationships with local schools, parents/guardians, students, community partners, Step by Step staff, etc
- Provide ongoing family education workshops, services, and special events
- Plan and provide supplies and support for FSC as well as SBS ASP Family nights as designated at sites. This planning will be done with the SBS ASP Director and Site Coordinator
- Respond promptly and courteously to FSC client concerns and/or complaints
- Join monthly FSC Director call with DHHR online
- Host quarterly advisory board meetings to provide information and updates on FSC programming
- Host bi-annual focus groups to assess current needs of the community
- Establish partnerships with community-based organizations, public agencies, local universities, city agencies, local businesses, and other collaborators
Data Collection and Reporting
- Maintain FSC Database and generate reports upon request
- Submit all required documentation following established guidelines and on a timely basis
- Review staff timesheets and submit bi-weekly
- Conduct community assessments and surveys as instructed
Daily Center Operations (as needed)
- Support clients with various center services such as the food pantry, baby pantry, clothing closet, etc
- Demonstrate the safe and proper use of supplies and equipment to clients
- Interact professionally and respectfully with clients, staff, partners, and stakeholders
- Manage and maintain inventory daily by first in, first out
Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- An Associate Degree or two years of work experience in project/program management
- Experience working in a professional environment
- Passion for working with community partners and families in the designated county
- Able to work late afternoons and evenings, as well as participate in occasional daytime training
- Ability to drive and transport supplies to various sites in Logan County (mileage reimbursable)
- Background/Fingerprint clearance
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time
