What are the responsibilities and job description for the Maintenance Technician position at Step Forward Activities, Inc.?
PURPOSE:
Persons in this position are under the supervision of the Executive Director. This position will be responsible for preserving the good condition of all buildings, grounds, properties, and other designated equipment to ensure a safe and well-functioning environment that complies with all local, state and federal regulations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Perform preventative facility and equipment inspections.
- Conduct preventive maintenance as scheduled
- Monitor equipment conditions and anticipate potential failures to prevent unnecessary downtime.
- Inspect buildings, equipment, grounds and properties to determine the need for repairs or renovations
- Responsible for monthly vehicle inspections.
Schedules and performs maintenance and repairs.
- Perform general maintenance including carpentry, plumbing, light electrical, furniture assembly and moving, painting, keeping outdoor walkways and exits clear and free from debris and snow, etc.
- Schedules vehicle maintenance and repairs as needed with approved vendor(s).
- Manage the upkeep of equipment and supplies to meet health and safety standards.
- Installs equipment and appliances.
- Ability to work with people in situations which may result in verbal and/or physical insult and to participate in actions and training to prevent the same.
- Responsible for creating and following a preventative maintenance schedule for buildings, equipment, grounds and properties
- Conducts quarterly safety inspections at each Step Forward location.
- Ensures Fire Extinguishers and other safety equipment are scheduled for maintenance or repair/replacement as required to meet health and safety standards.
- Collaborates with the maintenance team and contractors as needed.
- Responds to repair and maintenance requests in a timely fashion.
Promote a positive and professional attitude towards others.
- Represent the organization in a positive, professional, and responsible manner to staff, other professionals, and the community.
- Work cooperatively with internal and external contacts to ensure services are provided in a timely manner.
- Collaborates with the maintenance team and contractors as needed.
Documentation and compliance.
- Maintains compliance with State & Federal laws and regulations as well as corporation policies and procedures.
- Vet all potential service contractors. Ensure that contractors are appropriately licensed and bonded and follow safety and OSHA regulations while on the premises.
- Act as the safety officer and attend scheduled safety meetings. This includes safety checks, safety training for staff, keeping SDS books up to date, ensuring facility fire drills are completed as scheduled, keeping locations compliant with OSHA regulations, etc.
- Maintain documentation of all safety inspections and safety training.
- Keep financial and non-financial records
- Maintains confidentiality of written and verbal information pertaining to Step Forward Activities, Inc., and its program participants.
- Ensures timely and accurate completion of all paperwork including but not limited to reports, resident finances and personal files, and payroll documentation.
Maintain open communication with internal and external team members and staff.
- Maintain good communication with the program managers of each assigned site, and immediately communicate any issues or concerns relating to the program.
- Complete assignments in a timely manner.
- Maintain confidentiality of all consultations and conversations with management team members unless receiving authorization to share information.
- Communicate on a regular basis with the Executive Director, keeping them informed of any areas of concern.
Perform miscellaneous duties as assigned by the Executive Director.
- Assist with projects, such as meeting with SFA service recipients, and/or training as requested.
- Assist with supported individual move-ins/outs.
- Complete other duties or tasks as assigned.
HOURS WORKED:
Full-time; 40 hours weekly position. The Maintenance Technician's schedule is a 40-hour week, with flexibility required in scheduling. Periodic weekend, evening, and/or NOC hours may be necessary for emergency issues.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Possess and maintain a valid Oregon Driver’s license.
- Pass various tests, including criminal background investigation, and others as may be required.
- Maintain CPR/First Aid and other certifications as assigned.
- Knowledge of the English language sufficient to read, write, speak, and otherwise interact with residents and co-workers to perform the duties of the job as described herein and complete documentation as required by State and Federal laws and regulations.
- Knowledge of basic maintenance skills including light carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting, and general building repair.
- Ability to use equipment, including power tools, hand tools, electric tools, and plumbing tools.

- Ability to competently use computer software applications including but not limited to:
- Microsoft Office: Excel, Word, PowerPoint
- Google Suite
EXPERIENCE:
- Experience as facilities/maintenance manager or relevant position.
- Experience in Electrical experience. (Required)
- A certification in building maintenance is a plus.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS OF POSITION:
- Some lifting (up to 50 lbs.).
- Must be able to perform periodic standing, driving, walking.
