Essential Functions
- Assists and readily accepts direction from teachers to meet or exceed Head Start child development goals and objectives.
- Assists in the development and facilitation of activities and curriculum plans relating to child development.
- Handles various record keeping functions relating to children and period lesson planning.
- Maintains the care of the center, equipment, materials and supplies to ensure the safety and security of site operations.
- Assists teachers and other staff in meal service and family style dining with children.
- Assists teachers and other staff in chaperoning children during gross motor activities and outdoor play.
- Ensures all potential sources of danger that have a chance of causing injury or harm to humans are kept out of the reach of children.
- Uses physical dexterity to push, pull, carry, climb, balance and kneel to assist and perform activities with children.
- As assigned, participates in parent meetings, attendance of conferences with supervisor, staff meetings, in-service training workshops and lectures for further professional growth.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- High school or general equivalency diploma (GED).
- Flexible to changing demands of the program.
- Sensitivity to children and their families.
- Good communication skills to clearly relate the program to families, communities and its resources.
- Good dexterity with ability to lift 40 pounds, push, pull, carry, climb, balance and kneel to assist and perform activities with children.
- Demonstrated experience working with infants and/or pre-school aged children.
