STEP AmeriCorps Community Garden Engagement Specialist

STEP AmeriCorps, in partnership with the Salvation Army Community Garden and Urban Farm, is seeking a Community Engagement Specialist.

Where: Williamsport, PA

Who you are: STEP AmeriCorps is looking for individuals who are interested in serving the community while earning a living stipend and money toward their education or student loans. This is a summer position, and members must commit to completing 300 hours over 10 weeks this summer.

About the role: This is a paid service opportunity with STEP AmeriCorps. The member will support the Garden’s mission which is to offer growing opportunities to individuals, families, and organizations, provide formal and informal gardening education on how to grow vegetables and practices that support total well-being, to grow and harvest organic produce making it available to those in food insecurity circumstances, improve and maintain the habitat around the garden using organic and sustainable practices, and provide a park like area for socialization and sanctuary. This member will also assist with the Lose Park Community Garden.

Essential Functions/Duties:

• Assist in daily operations, land management, education and development activities
• Expand community involvement and programming goals
• Assist with volunteer recruitment and management
• Help to develop sustainable practices, youth education programming
• Expand Garden tracking and inventory systems

Minimum Qualifications:

• Gardening experience
• Familiarity with use of garden tools
• Experience in working with groups of people
• Computer Skills – Microsoft Office
• Organizational skills
