What are the responsibilities and job description for the Chemical Packaging Engineer position at Stepan Company?
The purpose of this role is to work with the Stepan Packaging Team to assist in various issues related to the packaging of specialty and commodity chemicals. The work also entails assisting in developing a comprehensive packaging program at Stepan. The types of packages and containers include pails, drums, totes, metal storage tanks and large storage vessels.
Responsibilities:
• Interpret Corrosion/Materials of Construction results for various materials such as: plastics, metals, coatings and elastomers.
• Evaluate and recommend new and existing packaging for new and existing chemical products. This would require working with the Packaging Team.
• Assist with customer package complaint investigations.
• Familiar with ASTM methods for Materials of Construction testing.
• Familiar with material compatibility.
• Work to normalize packaging suppliers across the US.
• Validation of new package suppliers.
• Work with operations on issues related to packaging containers such as drums or totes.
• Work within the SAP framework to organize drum and tote codes and SKU’s.
• Develop internal package specifications that must be met by manufacturers.
• Develop a process or framework to work between the business team, operations and container vendors to determine the best container for a specific product from the appropriate vendor.
• Assist in determining the allowable years of use of a particular container.
Qualifications
• 5 years of experience in packaging of specialty and commodity chemicals to include pales, totes, drums, metal storage tanks, etc.
Education
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering or related field
Pay Range: $73,000 - $124,000
The salary range for this position is determined by considering a variety of factors such as skills, experience, qualifications, and the location of the position.
