Job Description
The Sr. Technician will work within the Consumer Products Product Development group, primarily in an R&D lab setting, preparing samples, formulations, and running performance tests. This role will support Stepan’s Consumer Products portfolio needs for the development of formulations and processes relating to various applications, including laundry detergents, fabric softeners, hand dishwashing, hard surface care, and personal care. The successful candidate will be expected to support and work closely with the workgroup’s senior chemists in order to complete project tasks independently and report data and conclusions efficiently.
Key Responsibilities:
- Help solve problems and make projects successful.
- Participate in department workgroup; contribute ideas and suggestions for improving department infrastructure and work
- processes.
- Actively participate in safety/waste programs and steadfastly adheres to safety policies/standards.
- Keep an organized, up-to-date electronic laboratory notebook and other documentation, such as technical reports.
- Maintain project tracker records. Communicate project results (internally to supervisor, project leader, requester, etc) via timely verbal updates, emails as well as timely, well written correspondence and project reports.
- Work in both a team environment and independently.
- Order/communicate supply and chemical needs.
- Grow technical knowledge in new formulation ingredient chemistry.
Qualifications
- 0-1 year experience; Must have experience working in a laboratory environment
- Must practice safe laboratory procedures. Uses proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when working in the lab (safety glasses, gloves, lab coat with long sleeves, no heels or large jewelry, etc.).
- Must have a desire to work in a laboratory based role as a bench chemist.
- Must have excellent interpersonal skills.
- Must have an attention to detail and possess good organization skills.
- Must be proficient in all Microsoft Office applications.
- Must be able to work in Northfield, IL laboratory.
- Must be able to sit, stand, communicate by phone/email, and use a PC for extended periods of time. Must also be able to safely use a foot stool to reach jars/containers in tall cabinets.
Education
- B.S. Degree in Chemistry or related field
Pay Range: $50,000 - $72,000
The salary range for this position is determined by considering a variety of factors such as skills, experience, qualifications, and the location of the position.
