What are the responsibilities and job description for the Special Services Foreperson position at Stephen F. Austin University?
This is a supervisory position responsible for training, instructing, scheduling, supervising, evaluating, and assisting special services staff in the performance of duties. Assists with providing transportation services as needed. Works under general supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Reports to the Manager of Transportation & Special Services.
Essential Job Functions
1. Schedules special services staff appropriately to ensure adequate coverage.
2. Assists special services staff in performing assigned duties including, but not limited to, trash disposal and campus sanitation, general asphalt and/or concrete work, heavy equipment operation, custodial and housekeeping duties, basic grounds work, event set-up and break-down, and general labor.
3. Trains, supervises, and evaluates assigned staff.
4. Assists in planning, coordinating, and supervising asphalt/paving projects, street and parking lot maintenance and repair projects, and small construction projects.
5. Updates information in the departmental work management system.
6. Reviews, ensures the accuracy of, and approves time records for assigned staff.
7. Communicates with departments to assess overall customer satisfaction with services rendered.
8. Assists with conducting inventory reviews of equipment and tools. Maintains and monitors inventory, including overseeing proper use.
9. Operates assigned equipment in a safe manner and in adherence with university policies and local, state, and federal laws.
10. Oversees the utilization of safe working practices. Identifies and reports potential hazards.
11. Participates in internal and external trainings to ensure work is performed safely and effectively.

11. Ability to obtain a Texas driver’s license, SFA permit, and van certification prior to employment.
12. Ability to obtain and maintain commercial driver’s license (CDL) with passenger endorsement.
13. Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.
14. Physical condition adequate to permit full performance of duties.

High school diploma or equivalent is required.
Required Experience and Training
Five years of related experience is required. Supervisory experience is required. Experience in sanitation, general construction, and asphalt and concrete work is required. Must obtain a State of Texas class “B” provisional commercial driver’s license prior to employment; must be able to obtain a class “B” commercial driver’s license with “P” passenger endorsement within two weeks of employment.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with computer-aided design and drafting software is preferred.
