This is a student position responsible for assisting faculty and staff with research activities. Works under general supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
Student will gather data from previously published studies on the salt formations throughout the United States, digitize maps and data, and create a summary from the obtained files. Lab work will also be conducted on samples using XRF, XRD, ICP-MS and LIBS. Student will also help with the core repository, including organizing and moving core boxes, setting up equipment, and cutting samples.
Job Duties

1. Assists in conducting research related to project hypotheses and objectives in accordance with research protocol.
2. Assists in collecting, handling, processing, analyzing, and interpreting data.
3. Assists in the development and completion of surveys, reports, analysis, etc.
4. Assists with special projects as assigned.
5. May handle, process, and dispense sensitive information of a confidential/proprietary nature.
6. May assist with general laboratory maintenance.
7. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
1. Knowledge of, or the ability to learn, research methodologies, principles, and techniques.
2. Ability to communicate professionally and courteously with university faculty and staff, students, and the general public.
3. Ability to understand and follow instructions.
Required Qualifications
The minimum education required for admittance as a student at Stephen F. Austin State University. The recommendation of a faculty member may be required.
ESGR major is required.
No direct experience is required. Training and instruction will be provided.
Preferred Qualifications Physical Demands

Must be able to lift 25-50 lbs on a regular basis.
Special Conditions for Eligibility
A student must be enrolled in six or more semester hours to be eligible for student employment during the fall or spring semesters. To be eligible for student employment during the summer, a student must be enrolled in three or more semester hours or be registered for courses in the upcoming fall semester.
Student assistants may not hold any other type of position such as a graduate assistantship or temporary casual employment at the same time that they are employed as a student assistant.
