What are the responsibilities and job description for the Student Assistant (Work Study) - Social Media position at Stephen F. Austin University?
This is a work-study student position responsible for creating, writing, editing, and publishing content to enhance and promote the web and social media presence for Student Development and Access Services (SDAS).
Job Duties
- Develops and updates written content for print and web materials.
- Creates a social media strategy that contributes to achieving the goals of SDAS.
- Analyzes and reports social media actions on a monthly basis for successes and new opportunities.
- Stays current with social media trends, tools, and applications.
- Assists in creating various designs for events, including flyers, t-shirts, and give-away items.
- Promotes social media profiles at events.
- Manages social media campaigns and day-to-day activities (this includes X, Facebook, Instagram and TikTok).
- Monitors online media, information sources, and social channels.
- Brainstorms and implements new ways for students to get involved and attend campus events.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Knowledge of AP Style.
- Skill in monitoring social media profiles including Facebook, TikTok, X, and Instagram.
- Ability to work on both PC and Mac platforms.
- Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective interpersonal relationships.
- Ability to organize assigned work.
- Ability and willingness to work with a student body and staff from varied backgrounds and experiences.
- Ability to work independently with general supervision.
The minimum education required for admittance as a student at Stephen F. Austin State University.
No direct experience is required. Training and instruction will be provided.
A student must be awarded and accept a “Work-Study Permit” for each semester the student will be working.

A student must be enrolled in six or more semester hours to be eligible for student employment during the fall or spring semesters. To be eligible for student employment during the summer, a student must be enrolled in three or more semester hours or be registered for courses in the upcoming fall semester.
Student assistants may not hold any other type of position such as a graduate assistantship or temporary casual employment at the same time that they are employed as a student assistant.
