Art Specialist

Job Overview:

We seek a dynamic, agile, and innovative individual with an art background and preferably special education experience to join our teaching team for the 25_26 school year. The ideal candidate has worked with students with learning disabilities and is eager to grow and learn with an experienced team of professionals, teaching students with various skill levels and inspiring and developing students’ interests and abilities in artistic expression.

Essential Functions:

• Develop and teach a program that includes fundamental fine arts skills, techniques and media, art history, and a cross-curricular and culturally diverse curriculum.
• Additional responsibilities include displaying art on a frequent basis, writing narrative progress reports, creating musical sets, and participating in collaborative curriculum development, grade-level activities, and school-wide functions.
• Designs and facilitates art electives and clubs.
• Works collaboratively with Head or Co-Lead Teachers to coordinate curriculum
• Drives an appreciation for art history that is inclusive and diverse for students
• Develops a joyful and productive learning community where students feel safe to take risks
• Attend full faculty and staff meetings. 
• Willing to commit to anti-bias and anti-racism work and to promoting inclusion, belonging and equity through their work in the classroom and school community. 
• Ensure a commitment to the school’s DEI mission and goals by participating in continuous professional development for learning differences, anti-racism and anti-bias of all kinds.
• Be an active member of the Gaynor community
• Other duties and responsibilities as deemed appropriate

Qualifications

Qualifications & Skills:

• Bachelor’s degree required (Master’s degree  preferred)
• Art experience required (preferably within a school setting)
• Experience working with children with learning differences preferred
• Independent school teaching experience preferred
• Knowledge of the cognitive, linguistic, and developmental needs
• Strong communication and organizational skills (both written and verbal)
• Ability to be flexible to adjust to classroom instruction
• Will display time management to maximize student learning
• Sets a respectful, collaborative, and positive tone and recognizes our responsibility to create a diverse and inclusive environment that supports and celebrates each individual in our school community
• Proficient in Google Workspace (Drive, Docs & Sheets) and Microsoft Office
