Job Overview:
We seek dynamic, agile and innovative individuals, preferable with a special education background to join our teaching team for the 25_26 school year. The Assistant Teacher supports the Head Teacher in the development and implementation of instruction in all subjects. The position involves daily collaboration with the Head Teacher and other professionals. The ideal candidate has worked with students with learning disabilities and is eager to learn from an experienced team of professionals.
Essential Functions:
- Assist in the creation and execution of classroom lessons and materials in collaboration with the head teacher
- Teach and plan small group lessons in math, reading/literature and other content areas when the team determines that you are ready.
- Prepare classroom materials (e.g., make copies, staple and hole-punch papers, construct classroom signs, refill classroom supplies as needed)
- Transition and support the class in various specials elsewhere in the building (fine arts, physical education, technology and science)
- Be fully present and actively support students during whole group instruction, discussion, projects and lectures
- Assist with supporting the classroom needs when your head teacher is absent
- Help with homework organization, following the system established by the head teacher
- Support the dismissal of students outside the school at the end of each day
- Monitor the halls during all transitional periods
- Routinely observe students, take notes and share them with the team
- Willing to display a commitment to anti-bias and anti-racism work and to promoting inclusion, belonging and equity through their work in the classroom and school community.
- Ensure a commitment to the school’s DEI mission and goals by participating in continuous professional development for learning differences, anti-racism and anti-bias of all kinds.

Qualifications
Qualifications & Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree required, major in Education preferred
- Master’s degree in Special Education or enrollment in a master’s program preferred
- Experience working with children with learning differences preferred
- Independent school teaching experience preferred
- Knowledge of the cognitive, linguistic, and developmental needs
- Strong communication and organizational skills (both written and verbal)
- Sets a respectful, collaborative, and positive tone, and recognizes our responsibility to create a diverse and inclusive environment that supports and celebrates each individual in our school community.
- Ability to be flexible to adjust with classroom instruction
- Must be able to provide proof of COVID-19 vaccinations
