Job Overview:
Assist the Director of Facilities & Construction in providing safety and security services to students; faculty, staff and visitors. To provide quality school oriented problem-solving safety and security services that maintain a safe and secure academic environment and physical security of the school using industry best practices. The person in this position is expected to interact with members of the school community in a highly professional manner.
Essential Functions:
- Responsible for maintaining school safety during the hours of 6:30AM-3PM.
- Assist with the arrival and departure of students to ensure that all safety protocols are being adhered to.
- Monitor conditions to prevent hazardous sidewalk conditions for members of the school community.
- Maintain a presence at the doors/gates while monitoring surveillance cameras. Screen visitors, contractors etc prior to their entrance into the school.
- Monitor security department technology and electronic devices to detect, prevent, or investigate possible unlawful activity.
- Responsible for assisting Fire Drills and Lockdown drills.
- Aid in the orderly evacuation of students and faculty from affected areas and assist with the post incident accounting of community members.
- Direct and assist first responders when they are dispatched to the school. Facilitate access to buildings and secured areas as required. Document actions taken and the names of individuals treated or transported by EMS.
- Report any issues observed to the Director of Facilities and Construction
Qualifications
Qualifications & Skills:
- A High School Diploma plus 4 years working as a school security guard. (Military service and/or attendance in law enforcement training programs are suitable substitutions)
- Effective communication skills, both oral and written, including the ability to interact/communicate with all types of members of the community including vendors, teachers, administrators, board members, parents and students.
- Excellent organizational skills
- Kind, courteous, calming and respectful demeanor at all times
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Sets a respectful, collaborative, and positive tone, and recognizes our responsibility to create a diverse and inclusive environment that supports and celebrates each individual in our school community.
LICENSES/CERTIFICATION:
- Valid New York State Security Guard License.
- Valid New York State ID
