What are the responsibilities and job description for the Cannery Assistant position at Stephens County School District?
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Computer skills
- Meat working experience preferred
- Ability to consistently lift 50 pounds
- Ability to work in extreme heat and cold environments
DUTIES:
- Demonstrates prompt and regular attendance.
- Open and close cannery and freezer locker at the assigned times.
- Provides safety instructions to each person that uses the cannery and freezer lockers.
- Helps in providing instructions and directions to everyone that uses the facility.
- Assists with food preservation process when needed.
- Assists Cannery Supervisor with maintaining equipment necessary to make the canning operation safe for the people in the community. Includes maintenance on all the equipment including the blancher, steam tunnel, sealer and all cookers in the canning area.
- Maintains inventory control of the freezer(s).
- Responsible for keeping the cannery and freezer locker(s) clean and up to USDA standards in accordance with inspection by the state and federal officials.
- Helps with the ongoing projects at the cannery with guidance from Cannery Supervisor.
- Keeps the boiler in operating condition and keeps the fuel level operational as well as maintains the boiler in such a condition as to pass inspection each year.
- Responsible for keeping the weather lines and cooler compressors in running condition especially during seasonal problem times.
- Works well with all staff and public.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
