Position Summary

The Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) is a key member of the executive team, responsible for planning, directing, and coordinating nursing and clinical activities across the hospital. The CNO aligns the goals of the clinical departments with the overall mission, vision, and values of the organization. This role requires flexibility and the ability to work extended hours or on short notice.

Principal Duties And Responsibilities

  • Supervise clinical departments and other departments assigned by the CEO.
  • Assist in hiring, evaluating, and interviewing employees.
  • Determine staffing needs based on patient acuity and staff competency.
  • Collaborate with all departments to address patient and unit needs.
  • Ensure safety, fire, and disaster programs are followed.
  • Promote awareness of patients' rights and act as a patient advocate.
  • Delegate responsibilities appropriately.
  • Analyze trends and implement corrective adjustments.
  • Promote positive interdisciplinary relationships.
  • Follow universal precautions and isolation procedures.
  • Assist with departmental budgets.
  • Train and educate staff on equipment usage, hospital policy, and compliance requirements.
  • Evaluate staff performance and facilitate staff development.
  • Support cost containment efforts.
  • Implement programs to measure and improve patient care quality.
  • Ensure effective delivery of patient care.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to direct reports.
  • Resolve conflicts and support a culture of teamwork.
  • Approve and manage time and attendance of direct reports.
  • Direct policies and activities to ensure operations and productivity.
  • Develop and maintain division goals and objectives.

Educational/Experience Required

  • Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing.
  • Master's Degree preferred.
  • Current RN license with the state board of nursing.
  • Minimum of five years' experience as a general duty staff nurse preferred.
  • Basic Life Support (CPR-Healthcare Provider) certification within 30 days of hire.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certifications within 90 days of hire.
  • Trauma Nursing Core Curriculum (TNCC) certification within 6 months of hire.
