Description
Under the supervision of the Program Manager and the Rehabilitation Supervisor, the Mental Health Professional assists the Program Manager with many of their duties around community linkage needs, managing the congregate living site and teaching activities of daily living to clients.
Requirements
Administrative:
Completes quality, accurate and timely service notes based on medically necessary services that have been rendered to the clients and meets agency productivity standards.
Adheres to Stepping Stones Policies and Procedures.
Supervises site staff and facilitates communication between staff members in Program Managers absence.
Attends all required staff meetings and training.
Communicates site and client’s issues though the communication log/memo book and shift report procedures as required.
Disburses and logs petty cash expenditures and client funds as required.
Knows the emergency preparedness plan and the location of gas, water and electrical controls of current work site, and the correct operation of fire extinguishers.
Maintain clean and safe general environment of the sites and grounds, including reporting safety or health issues as required, the practice of infection control and knowledge of blood borne pathogens.
Adheres to clients’ rights under the Mental Health Code, Confidentiality Ac, HIPAA and Rule 50 of the Office of Inspector General, abides by Stepping Stones Code of Ethics and Professional Practice.
Direct Service:
Participates in the planning and implementing of a client’s treatment plan as a member of the Community Support Team.
Provides problem solving and remedial counseling to clients.
Assists other site staff with assessing problematic client behavior and identifying interventions by which to minimize potential concerns.
Serves, as a link between client, agency and community by assisting client with accessing and maintaining needed resources and entitlements.
Engages and appropriately develops rapport and therapeutic relationships with clients in support of their treatment plan.
Completes daily work assigned by the Program Manager to include case management, community support services, psychosocial skills training and transportation as needed.
Understands and can properly use the 911 emergency systems for medical and other emergencies and the agency on-call system for psychiatric crisis.
Monitors and educates clients on medication usage, symptoms and side effects.
Observes client self-medication administration through use of the Medication Observation Record maintains a medication cart and completes the Medication Error Report as required.
Adheres to Stepping Stones’ Polices and Procedures.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Contacts:
A Mental Health Professional will perform many duties in and with the public and may have daily contact with one or more of the following: Program Manager, other MHP’s, Rehabilitation Supervisors, Director of Services, Chief Operating Officer, Director of Buildings and Grounds, CEO, Staff Psychiatrists, Staff Nurses, On Call staff, Rehabilitation Service Aide, and clients, families, guardians, public agencies, social service agencies, medical, correctional and emergency personnel.
Qualification Requirements:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must have knowledge of behavioral science, good organizational skills and be able to communicate well verbally and in writing. He or she must also possess good self-discipline, leadership and problem solving skills, patience, reasoning and good judgment. Must be 21 years of age, and have a valid driver’s license and an insured vehicle at work
Education:
Minimum requirement is a Bachelors Degree or five years experience in mental health or a related social service field. Formal training is provided by the agency and must be Successfully completed in a timely fashion as a requirement of continued employment. This position meets the qualifications of Medicaid Rule 132, Mental Health Professional.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Immediate supervision of the congregate living site falls to the Mental Health Professional in the Program Managers absence.
Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee will frequently be required to sit (approx. 2 hour), type on computer keyboard (approx.1 hour) be on their feet standing, walking and climbing stairs (approx. 5 hours), bend and carry (up to 30 lbs.), lift from floor to waist (up to 30 lbs.), lift from waist to overhead (up to 10 lbs.), push (up to 50 lbs.), pull (up to 50 lbs.), and operate agency van or passenger vehicles. Employee must be able to communicate well in both oral and written format. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
Work Conditions:
A MHP works 8-12 hour days and a 40-hour week. Shift times may very depending on site coverage needs. Environment is moderately noisy and there is risk involved with client contact. While working direct support persons must not be concurrently engaged in child or family care, personal business or errands, personal hobbies, or any other pursuit which would diminish their effectiveness in the provision of necessary and appropriate programming, including ensuring the safety and well-being of those in their care.
