Position Title: Summer Camp Nurse (full-time, or potential for part-time/job share)
Reports to: Vice President of the Academy
Pay Rate: $40.00 per hour
Program Overview:
The Steppingstone Scholars Program, a program of Steppingstone, provides academic, social-emotional, and college-readiness services to Boston students, starting in fifth grade and continuing all the way through college graduation. This summer, Steppingstone will enroll 240 rising fifth, sixth and seventh grade Scholars. The program will last for 6 weeks and will be held in person at Milton Academy in Milton, MA.
Position Overview:
The Summer Camp Nurse, in collaboration with program leadership, will be responsible for the health and wellness of Steppingstone Scholars and staff. The nurse will coordinate care to students on campus and will consult with program leadership and staff regarding health and safety protocols. The program location is Milton Academy and the hours are 7:30 a.m. - 3:45 p.m.
Important Dates:
Summer Orientation: June 24 & 26, 2025
Program Dates: June 30 -August 8, 2025 (no program July 4; August 8 programming will take place off-site at Canobie Lake Park)
Responsibilities:
- Support the implementation of Steppingstone’s health and safety protocols
- Provide first aid treatment to Scholars, and occasionally staff, as needed
- Administer medication as needed
- Check in with families of Scholars who are injured or who report or exhibit symptoms of illness, including COVID-19
- Develop care plans for Scholars as needed, in coordination with other staff
- Keep detailed records of all visits to the Nurse’s Office
- Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Nursing degree required; LPN or RN license preferred
- Knowledge of many areas of health, including mental health
- Knowledge of state health regulations and CDC guidelines regarding the COVID-19 virus
- Basic Life Support or CPR certification
- Ability to work independently and with others
- Ability to communicate well with others
- Ability to assess situations and act quickly
- Demonstrated commitment to college access and success
- Successful experience working with upper elementary and/or middle-grade students
- Fluency in Spanish, Mandarin, Cantonese, Vietnamese, Arabic, or Haitian Creole a plus
- Experience in Boston Public Schools a plus
