What are the responsibilities and job description for the Employment Specialist position at STEPS Inc.?
FLSA: Full-Time Professional/Non-Exempt
Responsible for the implementation of all service-related activities necessary to facilitate successful employment, placement and retention for program participants utilizing the Individual Competitive Placement Model of Supported Employment and Workplace Supports. This position is responsible to and supervised by the President & CEO.
DUTIES:
1. Responsible for completing intake, assessment and eligibility services to include explanation of services offered, determination of service needs, and development of service strategy plans.
2. Responsible for providing pre-employment support services as needed (i.e., assistance with resume’ writing, completing employment applications, etc.).
3. Responsible for providing job development services (i.e., assisting with job search activities, employer contacts, registration at local employment agencies, etc.).
4. Responsible for facilitating/providing pre-vocational skills training as needed.
5. Responsible for developing/fostering the best possible match between participants and employers/jobs based on experience, needs, desires, etc.
6. Responsible for facilitating/providing on-the-job skills training/coaching.
7. Responsible for providing follow-up services to placed individuals based on contract requirements and/or agency policy.
8. Responsible for providing support/job retention services based on individual needs, contract requirements and/or agency policy.
9. Responsible for individual case management including the maintenance of all necessary case file documentation, performing home visits, etc.
10. Responsible for completing public relation activities as needed to enhance community knowledge of STEPS’ services.
11. Responsible for maintaining a positive, professional and open relationship with local service/referral agencies, including but not limited to the Virginia Department of Aging and Rehabilitative Services, various Department of Social Services, local public school systems, and other public services agencies.
12. Other duties as assigned by the President & CEO or Employment Specialist Team Lead.
QUALIFICATIONS: Graduate from an accredited college/university with a degree in Human Services or related field. Experience working in government funded programs preferred. A combination of education/work experience may be substituted.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS OF THE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

15. Must have full active range of motion of all extremities.
16. Must be able to climb steps, ladder, and ramps frequently.
17. Must be able to bend/squat/twist/kneel frequently.
18. Must be able to turn head 180 degrees frequently.
19. Must be authorized for coverage under agency insurance if operating agency vehicle, have good driving record, valid Virginiadriver’s license, and/or required level of personal auto insurance.
20. Must be able to perceive size, discrimination, temperature, shapes, and/or textures.
21. Must be able to physically transfer client from a wheelchair in a safe manner.
22. Must have the physical stamina to work at least 12 hours per day.
23. Must be able to tolerate heat and humidity.
24. Must be able to travel long distances throughout the work week.
