What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Electrical Designer position at STEPS Talent?
We are seeking a Senior Electrical Designer to join our team in Kansas City to support power and industrial projects. This role involves hands-on design using AutoCAD 3D, working with multidisciplinary teams, and contributing to the design of power plant systems, including turbines, transformers, and high-voltage equipment.
What You’ll Do:
- Develop 3D electrical raceway models, circuit routing, and detailed design drawings using AutoCAD 3D.
- Produce Electrical One-Line, Three-Line, and Relaying Diagrams from engineering specs or verbal descriptions.
- Execute design layouts and calculations for complex electrical systems.
- Design and size components for electrical systems including Steam/Gas Turbines, 480V & 4160V equipment, and Generator Step-up Transformers.
- Perform QA/QC review on drawings and maintain structured project documentation.
- Collaborate closely with Project Managers, Engineers, and Designers across disciplines.
- Ensure designs meet applicable codes, standards, and client requirements.
What We’re Looking For:
- 6 years of experience in Electrical Design, including 3 years in power plant or heavy industrial settings.
- Proficient in AutoCAD 3D and design documentation workflows.
- Strong understanding of raceway and cable routing design, especially for power systems.
- Experienced with industrial-grade equipment including turbines and transformers.
- Proficient in Excel and other calculation/design tools.
- Excellent problem-solving, attention to detail, and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with design codes and regulatory requirements.
- Experience working in multi-disciplinary engineering environments.
- Ability to manage and revise complex design documents independently.
