We are seeking a diligent and knowledgeable Current Awareness Analyst to join our team. The successful candidate will focus on monitoring and analyzing legal developments, regulatory changes, and industry news, ensuring that the firm and its clients remain informed of significant changes in laws, litigation, and market trends. The role is critical in supporting legal teams by providing timely and relevant information to aid decision-making, client advisories, and strategic planning.
Key Responsibilities:
- Legal Monitoring: Track and report on relevant legislative, regulatory, and judicial developments from local, national, and international sources, including court rulings, government publications, legal databases, and news outlets.
- Current Awareness Reporting: Prepare regular summaries, newsletters, and bulletins on legal trends, case law developments, and emerging regulations for internal teams and clients.
- Research and Analysis: Conduct deep-dive research on legal topics, including emerging case law, regulatory frameworks, and competitor law firm activities. Synthesize findings into clear, actionable insights.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with attorneys, legal assistants, and other departments to understand their information needs and tailor reports accordingly.
- Content Management: Maintain an up-to-date, organized library of legal developments, reports, and resources for easy reference by the legal team.
- Tool Utilization: Utilize legal research platforms such as Westlaw, LexisNexis, Bloomberg Law, and others to monitor legal trends and generate relevant insights.
- Trend Identification: Proactively identify trends in the legal sector, including regulatory changes, litigation trends, and major legal shifts that could impact firm operations or client matters.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Legal Studies, Information Science, or a related field; an advanced degree or certification in law, library science, or knowledge management is preferred.
- 2 years of experience in legal research, current awareness, or a similar role within a law firm or legal environment.
- Strong understanding of legal frameworks, case law, and the regulatory environment.
- Proficiency in using legal research databases such as Westlaw, LexisNexis, and Bloomberg Law.
- Excellent analytical skills, with the ability to distill complex legal information into concise and actionable summaries.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey legal information to both legal and non-legal audiences.
- Ability to work independently and within cross-functional legal teams.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
Reports to:
This role will report to the Research Services Manager.
Working Conditions:
- Ability to operate a variety of standard office equipment including a computer, copy and facsimile machines.
- Must be able to perform the duties of the position with time constraints, interruptions, and busy attorneys and staff and be able to treat all matters in a discrete and confidential manner.
- “Key Responsibilities” are primarily position duties that incumbents must be able to perform unassisted or with some reasonable accommodation made by the employer.
- Position may require some travel. Must possess a valid driver’s license. Must be able to travel overnight. On occasion must be able to work more than 40 hours per week.
Job Status:
Full time 37.5 hours per week. Exempt position
