The Assistant Director of Safety supports Sterling Crane USA in maintaining a strong safety culture by developing, implementing, and enforcing safety programs across all operations. This role is responsible for writing and maintaining company safety policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with OSHA, DOT, MSHA, and other industry regulations.
The Assistant Director of Safety will work closely with operations teams, leadership, and employees to promote safe work practices, reduce risk, and drive continuous improvement in safety performance.
Key Responsibilities
Evenings and weekends will be required on a rotating schedule.
Manual dexterity, auditory and visual acuity to operate computers, phones, mobile devices and basic office equipment on a constant basis.
Ability to work for extended periods of time sitting, bending, reaching, and speaking on a constant basis

Key Responsibilities
- Develop, write, and maintain company safety policies and procedures to ensure compliance with OSHA, DOT, MSHA, and ANSI standards.
- Assist in implementing and enforcing safety programs to reduce workplace incidents and ensure a culture of safety excellence.
- Conduct job site inspections, safety audits, and risk assessments to identify and mitigate potential hazards.
- Lead safety training programs, toolbox talks, and compliance education sessions for employees and supervisors.
- Investigate workplace incidents, accidents, and near-misses, preparing detailed reports and recommending corrective actions.
- Collaborate with operations, HR, and leadership to develop proactive safety strategies and initiatives.
- Stay updated on regulatory changes and industry best practices, ensuring company policies remain current and effective.
- Support safety-related communication efforts, including safety alerts, newsletters, and training materials.
- Monitor and analyze safety performance metrics, providing reports and recommendations to leadership.
- Serve as a key contact for regulatory agencies, assisting with compliance audits and inspections.
- Ensure proper documentation and record-keeping of all safety programs, incidents, and training activities.
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field preferred.
- 5 years of experience in safety management within the crane, heavy equipment, or construction industry.
- Strong knowledge of OSHA, DOT, MSHA, ANSI, and other relevant industry safety regulations.
- Experience writing and updating safety policies, procedures, and training materials.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to influence a strong safety culture.
- Ability to travel to job sites and branches as needed.
- Certifications such as ASP (Associate Safety Professional), CSP (Certified Safety Professional), or CHST (Construction Health and Safety Technician) required or in progress.
