Job Summary:
- The Health & Safety Specialist is responsible for ensuring a safe and compliant work environment by conducting safety inspections, investigating incidents, and implementing preventive measures. This role involves engaging with employees on the production and warehouse floors, identifying hazards, and providing safety training to maintain compliance with health and safety regulations.
Job Duties:
- Conduct daily safety audits and inspections to identify hazards and ensure compliance with safety protocols.
- Investigate workplace incidents, near misses, and hazardous conditions to determine root causes and implement corrective actions.
- Collaborate with department supervisors to investigate ergonomic injuries, illnesses, and employee discomfort complaints.
- Develop and implement job rotation programs to reduce ergonomic stressors.
- Assess and identify ergonomic risks within workplace operations and facility processes.
- Analyze injury and illness trends to establish benchmarks for work-related musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs).
- Maintain and manage safety records, including incident reports, training documentation, and safety data sheets (SDS).
- Educate supervisors, managers, and other leaders on health and safety standards.
- Actively participate in the site safety committee, including maintaining meeting minutes.
- Deliver safety training to employees, including new hire orientations, annual refresher courses, and specialized training.
- Ensure compliance with plant atmosphere and hygiene standards.
- Conduct internal safety and health audits.
- Coordinate emergency action plans and lead safety drills.
- Manage safety-related vendor activities.
- Track, review, and update safety key performance indicators (KPIs) to maintain accurate safety performance metrics.
- Oversee Workers' Compensation claims and facilitate communication among involved parties.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with employees at all organizational levels.
- Strong analytical skills to assess data and identify trends.
- Fluency in English (written and verbal).
- Experience in coordinating safety programs and projects.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.
