What are the responsibilities and job description for the Machine Operator position at Sterling Ethanol LLC?
The Machine/Process Operator at Sterling Ethanol LLC is responsible for testing and maintaining quality standards of the ethanol production process and facility while doing so in a safe and productive manner. From the beginning of the production process, through fermentation and distillation until final product is reached, the operator will ensure that each step of the process is running efficiently and within its specified ranges. Operators will perform these tasks by constantly running multiple tests through our Quality Control Laboratory and informing their lead supervisor of any anomalies. They will also perform routine maintenance and checks on the equipment and machines required in this process. Individuals must possess proficient cleaning and time management skills. Individuals must be able to perform physical tasks such as, standing for long periods, sitting, climbing, walking, lifting at least 40 lbs or more, working with hand tools, basic math skills, reading and writing English, basic computer skills, and the ability to learn to use, drive and maintain heavy equipment. The facility runs 24 hours a day 365 days a year so 12 hour rotating day and nigh shifts are required for this position.
Must pass drug test including marijuana and background check.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for the Hammermill maintenance and cleaning, cook process equipment and testing, fermentation process and testing, liquefaction areas and areas including bulk chemical and enzyme storage, centrifuge equipment and areas, evaporator equipment and areas, distillers grain handling/storage, boiler maintenance and logging, turbine operation and logging, cooling tower maintenance and logging, and alcohol distillation handling/storage areas.
- Keep informed on hazardous conditions of any kind. Highly hazardous chemical handling and safety. High pressure and/or temperatures. Grabbing of hot samples. Use of hot water/liquids and steam. Chemical spill containment, training and knowledge.
- Keep logs, readings, and records up to date for all assigned machines and areas.
- Perform required lab analysis of samples of the production process using scientific instruments/equipment and the logging of these results.
- Prioritizes work for most efficient use of time and resources.
- Follows instruction of the Lead supervisor and reports deviations immediately as they arise.
- Conduct your work in a safe and responsible manner. Report any safety problem to the Lead supervisor immediately.
- Keep areas clean using shovels, brooms, squeegees, power washers, mops, heavy equipment, etc. (trash, trashcans, spills, general cleaning.)
- Follow safety practices such as LOTO, confined space entry, and Hot Work permitting.
- Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with co-workers, contractors, customers, and suppliers.
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned by the Plant or Production Manager.
- Other duties not listed herein, but which need to be accomplished to maintain safe and timely day-to-day operations within the plant.
