What are the responsibilities and job description for the Cloud Architect position at Sterling Infrastructure, Inc.?
The Cloud Architect will lead our organization's journey from on-premises infrastructure to the cloud. This role will be instrumental in defining our cloud strategy, ensuring a seamless migration, and optimizing our Microsoft 365 (O365) tenant to enhance collaboration, security, and operational efficiency. The Cloud Architect will work report to Vice President of Technology Infrastructure & Cybersecurity, and work closely with IT leadership, cybersecurity, and business stakeholders to design scalable, secure, and cost-effective cloud solutions.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Develop and implement a cloud adoption roadmap, focusing on a seamless transition from on-premises infrastructure to a cloud environment.
Lead cloud migration initiatives, including workload assessments, application modernization, and data migrations.
Evaluate and recommend cloud service providers and technologies that align with business goals.
Optimize and secure the O365 tenant, implementing best practices for governance, compliance, and operational efficiency.
Enhance collaboration tools such as Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, and Exchange Online to maximize user productivity.
Implement best practices for identity and access management (IAM), including Azure AD, Conditional Access, and MFA.
Ensure compliance with data retention, security, and regulatory requirements within the O365 ecosystem.
Work closely with cybersecurity teams to harden cloud environments and ensure security best practices are followed.
Develop and enforce policies for resource provisioning, cost management, access control, and data protection within cloud environments.
Act as a trusted advisor to leadership, providing recommendations on cloud technologies and industry best practices.
Work with application, networking, and security teams to design automated and scalable cloud solutions.

Qualifications

Proven experience with Microsoft Azure and strong expertise in Microsoft 365 administration and optimization.
Hands-on experience in cloud migrations, including on-prem to cloud transitions and Microsoft 365 tenant-to-tenant migrations (mergers, acquisitions, and divestitures).
Strong understanding of identity consolidation and migration strategies (e.g., Azure AD tenant migrations, hybrid identity)
Expertise in cloud networking, security, and identity management (IAM, RBAC, Conditional Access, MFA).
Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools (Terraform, CloudFormation, ARM Templates, or similar).
Strong knowledge of licensing, compliance, and data governance in M365.
Hands-on experience with OneDrive & SharePoint content migrations (user file mapping, permissions transfer).
Proven experience securing cloud environments through advanced security configurations, threat detection, and incident response strategies
Proficiency in scripting and programming languages (Python, PowerShell, Bash, or similar).
Familiarity with cloud security frameworks such as CIS, NIST, and Zero Trust principles.
Deep understanding of Microsoft Active Directory, cloud computing (Azure, AWS), and hybrid environments.
Strong problem-solving skills, ability to work in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
Education and/or Experience
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field.
Cloud Platform Certifications such as Azure Solutions Architect Expert, AWS Solutions Architect, or Google Professional Cloud Architect
Microsoft 365 Certified: Administrator Expert or equivalent experience
5 years of experience in cloud architecture, infrastructure design, and migration projects.
5 years managing collaboration tools such as Microsoft O365
