Job Summary

The Sample Disposal Technician is responsible for properly handling and disposing of laboratory samples in compliance with safety regulations and environmental guidelines. This role ensures accurate documentation and organization of samples while maintaining a clean and safe workspace.,

Key Responsibilities

Ensure proper disposal of laboratory samples following company procedures and regulatory guidelines.

Scan samples for disposal using the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).

Adhere to all safety protocols, including the use of required personal protective equipment (PPE).

Maintain compliance with EPA, DOT, and OSHA regulations regarding hazardous and non-hazardous waste disposal.

Assist in maintaining the cleanliness and organization of sample storage areas.

Communicate with laboratory staff and supervisors regarding sample disposal procedures and requirements.

Specific Duties

Locate and manage processed client samples across the lab.

Label sample containers appropriately.

Neutralize and dispose of samples according to safety and waste management protocols.

Handle non-hazardous and hazardous samples, ensuring proper separation and disposal methods.

Use pH testing strips to confirm neutralization before disposal.

Assist in monthly sample cooler cleanouts and inventory updates.

Ensure samples are labeled, stored, and disposed of in the appropriate accumulation areas.

Follow emergency spill response procedures when necessary.

Equipment and Instrumentation Used

pH paper strips (0-14 or 4-9 range).

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including lab coats, gloves, safety glasses, and face shields.

Spill kits for handling caustic or acidic spills.

LIMS system for sample tracking and disposal logging.

55-gallon waste drums for hazardous material storage.

Fume hoods for neutralization procedures.

Requirements :

Education & Experience

High school diploma or equivalent required.

Previous experience in a laboratory sample disposal role is preferred.

Skills & Competencies

Strong attention to detail and accuracy in record-keeping.

Basic knowledge of computers and data entry systems.

Understanding of hazardous material handling and disposal (training provided).

Ability to work independently and efficiently in a fast-paced environment.

Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.

Physical Requirements

Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.

Ability to stand for extended periods.

Must be able to wear all required PPE, including lab coats, gloves, safety glasses, and face shields.

Ability to work in environments with exposure to chemicals, odors, and varying temperatures.
