budgeting for laboratory operations, and expanding lab services in new clinic locations. The MLT
will also supervise local Sterling employees, ensuring quality control (QC) is performed daily,
while troubleshooting lab equipment issues and optimizing operational efficiency.
- KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Ensure all 21 laboratory sites comply with CLIA, COLA, CAP, and state regulations for moderate-complexity testing.
- Oversee and coordinate laboratory surveys, inspections, and audits to maintain regulatory accreditation.
- Implement and monitor quality control (QC) and quality assurance (QA) programs
- across all locations.
- Develop, update, and enforce standard operating procedures (SOPs) and best practices.
- Supervise Sterling employees to ensure QC processes are followed daily.
- Investigate and address any lab deficiencies or non-compliance issues promptly.
- Oversee daily operations and ensure smooth laboratory workflow across multiple sites.
- Develop and implement standardized lab processes to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
- Hire, train, and terminate direct reports, ensuring staffing aligns with operational needs.
- Oversee skill competency checkoffs for all lab personnel and ensure continuing education requirements are met.
- Provide technical troubleshooting for laboratory machines and testing equipment.
- Collaborate with clinic leadership to ensure lab services support high-quality patient care.
- Plan, set up, and launch laboratory operations in new urgent care clinics.
- Ensure all new lab sites are fully equipped, compliant, and operational before opening.
- Work with vendors and contractors to procure and install lab equipment.
- Establish lab staffing and training protocols for newly opened locations.
- Develop and manage the laboratory department budget, ensuring cost-effective operations.
- Oversee inventory management and procurement to control expenses and prevent shortages.
- Develop pro formas for new lab locations, ensuring financial viability and efficiency.
- Track lab expenses, revenues, and productivity metrics to optimize profitability.
- Conduct competency assessments and ongoing education for lab personnel.
- Train Sterling employees and urgent care staff on lab procedures, compliance, and troubleshooting.
- Serve as the primary resource for lab-related inquiries, problem-solving, and process improvement.
- QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
- Education: Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, or a related field.
- Certification: ASCP, AMT, or equivalent MLT certification required.
- Experience: Minimum 5 years of experience as a Medical Laboratory Technician, with at least 3 years in a leadership or supervisory role.
- Regulatory Knowledge: Strong expertise in CLIA, COLA, and CAP requirements for moderate-complexity labs.
- Leadership and team management experience (hiring, training, and terminating
- staff).
- Budgeting and financial planning for laboratory operations.
- Ability to troubleshoot lab machines and testing equipment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple lab locations efficiently.
