What are the responsibilities and job description for the Experienced Folder Gluer Operators position at Sterling Packaging?
Summary Operator Description: Operates the Folder Gluer Machine. Retrieves the job to be glued. Programs the machine and glue system for the specific box die, performs inspection and testing of the product, performs regular/light maintenance duties as per maintenance schedule. Supervises a crew of staff that pack the finished product. Troubleshoots Machine Malfunctions. Follows Machine & Workplace Safety, Food Safety and ISO procedures.
The Glue Machine Personnel is responsible for:
- the accurate documentation of inventory items used
- the monthly maintenance of the equipment, at times in concert with the Maintenance Personnel within Sterling as well as outside Manufacturer Reps
- records and maintains specific information regarding customer jobs
- Filling out the Glue Machine Personnel portion of the process control in Sterling’s Info System (SIS)
- checking to see if the packers at the end of the glue line have filled out their required process control sheets
- initiating a Nonconformance Report (Ex V) when a product and/or process nonconformity is detected.
- maintaining general tidiness of the work area and adhering to the requirements of the HACCP program (sweeping floors, putting tools away, dumping garbage, dusting, etc.)
- the proper handling and safeguarding of tools provided
- logging time in Sterling’s Info System (SIS)
- adopting and assistance in implementing a “Lean Manufacturing Approach” to the department
- participating in the cross – training program when necessary
- follow Safe Work Procedures (SWP’S) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’S)
Glue Machine personnel may also be responsible for any other action as assigned.
Knowledge of: SOP, Safety, Paper Substrates, Programming, Machine Components.
Ability to:
- Program Gluer/Packer/Glue System – Retrieve, Set and Save Glue Patterns in Computer Systems, run machine within specifications
- Adjust Machine Components – feeder, rails, guides, glue guns, air, belts,
- Quality - Monitor product quality & machine efficiency during operation, remove defective boxes, document QC forms
- Verification - Verify quality of product, quantity packed, machine capability
- Comparison – Ensure all boxes are the same and packed the same way, the boxes match quality standard
- Prepare – Packing department on job requirements, prepare glue system and machine
- Defects -Identify source of machine malfunction, adjust machine, identify the cause of boxes with defects
- Reporting - Complete job inspection reports
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $20.00 - $30.00 per hour
