We are looking for a Full-Time Surgical Assistant to join our team at SROSM!
Monday - Friday
JOB SUMMARY : Under the direct supervision of the participating physician, the surgical assistant is responsible for providing aid in exposure, hemostasis, closure, and other intraoperative technical functions that help the surgeon carry out a safer operation with optimal results for the patient. In addition to the intraoperative duties, the surgical assistant also performs pre-operative, post-operative and clinical duties to better facilitate proper patient care. The surgical assistant to the surgeon during the operation does so under the direction and supervision of that surgeon and in accordance with hospital / surgical center policies and appropriate laws and regulations.
Surgical Assistant Duties :
- Provide first surgical assistance to SROSM physicians during surgical cases.
- Make sure OR, patient information and procedure are all in alignment.
- For surgeries : determine specific equipment needed per procedure; select and place of x-rays for reference; assist in moving and positioning of patient; review and confirm procedure with surgeon; assist in maintaining hemostasis; use and application of appropriate surgical instrument for the task, placement of ties, placement of suture ligatures; clamp ligate, and cut tissue per surgeon's directive; maintain integrity of sterile field; close all wound layers as per surgeon's directive; apply wound dressings; assist with resuscitation of patient during life-threatening events in the operating room; perform any other duties or procedures to the surgical procedure deemed necessary and as directed by the surgeon.
- For clinic : monitors therapies and provides continuity of care for the patient; triages patient calls and evaluates patient problems; sending and receiving patient medical records including x-ray / MRI reports; completing forms / requisitions as needed; assisting with appointment scheduling and insurance verifications; managing and updating charts to ensure that information is complete; set up instruments and equipment as needed; clean exam / procedure rooms and maintain infection control; checking patient vital signs; drug administration including injections; prescription verifications with physician's orders; biohazard waste disposal and monitoring; therapeutic modalities; instructing patients on post-operative and clinic visits per physician's orders; assists physician's and medical staff as needed.

- Serves and protects the physician or health care provider by adhering to professional standards, policies and procedures, federal, state and local requirements.
- Participates in facility committees, meetings, in-services, and activities.
- Compliant with HIPAA, OSHA, and company policies and regulations.
