Thisposition will report to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and will serve as anintegral member of the senior leadership team which includes the CEO, CFO, andCPO. The CDO will work closely with an impressive board of directors, each ofwhom give generously and all of whom are all committed to a shared vision ofgrowth for Illumination Foundation and a deeper impact for those they serve.

IlluminationFoundation serves over 6,500 individuals and families daily with integrated housing and healthcareservices. Its programs serve themost vulnerable homeless individuals, including families and children, inOrange County, Los Angeles County and the Inland Empire. They work with clientsin all of their programs to ensure they receive the wrap around services needed tocontinue on a path to stability and permanent housing. Illumination Foundation's Recuperative Care Centers provide recovery and stabilizationfor medically vulnerable individuals exiting hospitals and experiencinghomelessness. They also provide emergency housing and micro-communities combinedwith comprehensive wraparound services such as case management and counseling for long-termhousing opportunities and a connection to permanent housing. With a series offull circle care programs addressing the immediate needs of the unhoused, theirall-encompassing approach considers all aspects of a client's well-being. Theseresources empower, heal and inspire change on the path to permanent housing. The Opportunity
Illumination Foundation is an era of rapidgrowth, having expanded its budget in the past year alone from a $50Morganization to a $70M organization. It is the largest provider of services tohomeless families in Orange County, administers the largest recuperative careprogram in the nation and ranks as one of the top ten largest nonprofits inOrange County. Illumination Foundation has a very well respected, nationalbrand and is considered a content expert on the issue of homelessness, havingpublished numerous white papers and presented at national conferences. The CEO sitson the Board of Directors for the National Health Care for the Homeless Council,an organization she has belonged to since 2002.
The CDO will beresponsible for implementing a comprehensive, strategic fundraising plan toposition Illumination Foundation for continued growth. This includes stewardingexisting donors and maintaining current philanthropic funding, as well asengaging new donors from individuals, corporations, foundations, and throughspecial events such as Illumination Foundation's signature event, Chef's Table, whichgenerates approximately $1.5 million annually. Currently, philanthropic revenueconsists of $1.35M from individual giving, $2.4M from special events (whichincludes the $1.5M from Chef's Table), and $1.75M from foundation and corporatesupport. The CDO will be charged with building upon Illumination Foundation'strack record of success by leading the organization's development andcommunications function and achieving its goals for continued financialstability and community engagement. This is an ideal role for a seasoned,entrepreneurial, collaborative, and high-performing development / communicationsprofessional who can contribute to and is passionate about this mission, andlead others to engage both internal and external stakeholders to support it.The CDO has a current team of 6 FTE's with 6 direct reports. The opportunityexists to add up to 3 FTEs to restructure / rebuild the development andcommunications team in order to meet the strategic goals of the department.
The CDOwill partner with Illumination Foundation's visionary CEO, Dr. Pooja Bhalla. Herinnovative work includes the creation of IFMG, a private medical group whichprovides onsite medical and mental health services for Illumination Foundationclients; partnering with CHOC to provide primary care and behavioral healthcounseling to children experiencing homelessness; expanding IlluminationFoundation's recuperative care program, including creating a female-onlyrecuperative care facility; and spearheading the development of an electronichealth record system which uses clinical data and machine learning to generatediagnostic risk scores that can be used to tailor the level of servicesprovided to client needs.
In partnershipwith Dr. Bhalla, the new CDO will place their stamp not only on the growth of fund development and communications' reach, but also on IlluminationFoundation's continuing mission to disrupt the cycle of homelessness. The newCDO will have a demonstrated track record of institutional vision andleadership, with an emphasis on mentoring staff and establishing and overseeingefficient organizational systems, measurable fundraising / communications goals, financialforecasting, and fundraising / communications strategies.
Position Overview : The Chief Development Officer (CDO) will beresponsible for leading and overseeing the organization's fundraising strategy,donor engagement, and resource development efforts. The CDO will work closelywith the CEO, Board of Directors, and senior leadership to design and implementa comprehensive development strategy that ensures financial sustainability andenhances philanthropic support. This position requires a dynamic, visionaryleader with a proven track record of building relationships, cultivatingdonors, and growing fundraising programs.
