Sterling Search Partners is helping a Birmingham client with its search for a Senior Accountant. The Senior Accountant is responsible for overseeing financial reporting, reconciliation, budgeting, and analysis. This role ensures compliance with accounting principles, prepares accurate financial statements, and assists in the overall financial management of the organization. The Senior Accountant also provides guidance and support to junior staff members.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Reporting:
- Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
General Ledger Maintenance:
- Oversee the general ledger, ensuring that all accounts are reconciled and accurate. Resolve discrepancies in accounting records.
Reconciliation:
- Perform bank, credit card, and other account reconciliations to ensure accuracy and completeness.
Compliance and Audit Support:
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. Prepare for internal and external audits and provide necessary documentation.
Budgeting and Forecasting:
- Collaborate with management in creating and monitoring the annual budget. Perform variance analysis to assess financial performance and suggest improvements.
Process Improvement:
- Identify and implement improvements to accounting processes and systems to increase efficiency and accuracy.
Mentorship and Supervision:
- Mentor and support junior accountants or accounting staff, providing training and guidance where needed.
Month-End and Year-End Closing:
- Coordinate month-end and year-end closing processes, ensuring all entries are recorded accurately and in a timely manner.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
- CPA (Certified Public Accountant) certification is preferred.
- Minimum 3-5 years of accounting experience, with at least 1-2 years in a senior or supervisory role.
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles (GAAP)
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, SAP, or similar).
- Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables and complex formulas.
Salary : $75,000 - $95,000
