What are the responsibilities and job description for the Quality Control Laboratory Technician position at Sterling Specialty Chemicals?
POSITION SUMMARY: Run analytical testing and enter results into SAP QC Module for all products produced by Mobile Plant Operations. Test and verify raw materials meet agreed specifications. Provide innovative ideas to improve lab and plant processes and demonstrate continuous improvement. Support plant Health, Quality, Safety and Environmental initiatives.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Performs inspections and testing on intermediates, finish products and raw materials to support the Mobile plant operations
- Perform SAP data entry and approvals on Mobile plant products
- Generate and complete shift reports to ensure adequate communication, process improvement and shift changeover to ensure safe process continuity.
- Ensure the suitability of laboratory equipment through proper operation, maintenance, calibration, verification and good quality control and assessment activities
- Effectively communicate with operations
- Interpret and follow all QC and plant documented procedures
- Maintain a clean working environment
- Know, understand and use software tools such SAP, Microsoft Office Programs, etc.
- Must be willing to work in a team-oriented atmosphere
- Perform general laboratory housekeeping and safety inspections to ensure compliance with governmental regulations regarding proper hazard waste management and testing
- Comply with plant Health, Safety and Environmental rules and policies in the Mobile Employee Handbook and Mobile Plant SOP’s.
- Promote safety of self and coworkers by participation in the sites safety programs.
- Support Plant and Company goals and objectives
- Accurate data entry into SAP
- Position requires shift work and flexible work hours including overtime for training, meetings, and plant coverage.

WORKING EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:
- 2 years college chemistry or AS degree in chemistry or 5 years chemical laboratory work experience
- BS degree in chemistry preferred
COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Aptitude to successfully use computer software such as Excel and job specific calculations and functions.
- Self-motivated with a demonstrated high level of consistent approach to team working ethics
- Focused on detail, able to work autonomously and closely follow procedures
- SAP experience preferred
Important: Must be willing to work 7 days on, 7 off, 7 nights on, 7 off.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $33.16 per hour
Expected hours: 36 – 48 per week
