What are the responsibilities and job description for the Production Lead II position at STEVEN CHARLES?
- Lead the day-to-day operation of a production and packaging line. This person will continuously monitor line performance, quality, and safety to ensure that they are within standard. The Lead II will also provide basic direction, training and coaching to the line workers and operators, but will not issue discipline.
- Assist in some of the maintenance functions of the line(s) as detailed below.
- Ensures that all employees in the production line and area of their responsibilities, are following all formulas, build sheets including the documentation of lots, batches and waste logs are correct.
- Operate all the equipment within their assigned area, report any defects with the equipment on line boards of responsibility, and train workers how to use the equipment within their area of responsibility.
- Plan and assign daily tasks, verify completion of tasks and related documentation per site required documentation list.
- Assign and follow-up with employees to ensure the completion of assigned work in the setup and sanitation.
- Set up equipment and troubleshooting adjustments, to keep products within standard and the line running at or above required performance.
- Perform some of the routine line maintenance and troubleshooting tasks that are typically executed by maintenance, but that are within the Lead II’s approved list of activities that they have been trained and authorized to perform. These activities will NOT include wiring of equipment, other electrical work, or going into electrical panels.
- Perform Lockout/Tagout and other energy isolation procedures as necessary to safely work on equipment.
- Maintain the require hygiene standards of the equipment and the facility, consistent with GMP standards and Master Sanitation Schedules
- Train new and existing employees within the department, line and area.
- Effectively communicate with other departments to work together to achieve organizational results.
- Work with Production Supervisors to ensure daily planning is followed efficiently.
- Work with QA team to ensure food safety standards and procedures and guidelines are followed by all workers.
- Coordinate the completion of Master Cleaning Schedule supporting staff on day-to-day basis.
- Ensure all daily shift paperwork is kept in order, completed accurately, and filed at shift end.
- Ensure that all production activities are working efficiently and that changeovers are smooth, and on schedule.
- Help keep material and time waste to a minimum.
- Achieve shift targets for productivity, quality, and hygiene/sanitation.
- Ensure adherence to quality, safety, and hygiene standards.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Manage workflow by monitoring steps of the process; setting processing variables; observing control points and equipment.
- Manage line flow to ensure timely achievement of daily production goals.
- Troubleshoot line performance issues and work closely with maintenance team to resolve issues.

- Provide line employees with the opportunity to cross train and develop skill sets.
- Provide functional training to new employees according to standards and ensuring safe performance.
- Provide guidance to employees.

Assist in some of the maintenance functions on the line(s)
- Trouble shooting mechanical issues and the source of product defects.
- Using tools to make routine repairs and adjustments.
- Assembly and disassembly of equipment.
- Assist in Preventative Maintenace tasks when lines are down.

Compliance with Regulatory, Company and Industry Best Practice Operating and Safety Requirements:
- Satisfy safe and clean work environment by educating and directing employees on the use of all control points, equipment, and resources, while maintaining compliance with established policies and procedures.
- Monitor & maintain employee, equipment and facility compliance with regulatory and company requirements for human safety and food safe.
- Inspect the equipment safety guards, determine if they are in place, and ensure interlocks are properly functioning.
- Understand the energy isolation procedures of the equipment on the line and know when/how to lock out
- Troubleshoot and resolve basic Stick Robot mechanical issues including:
- Identify when a stick sensor needs to be adjusted, make the adjustment and tighten up the fastener to hold it in place.
- Identify when a stick sensor is defective and needs to be replaced. Replace a bad stick sensor and adjust the new one into position.
- Identify when a stick pusher is out of adjustment. Replace or adjust as necessary.
- Identify when a pusher cylinder is out of adjustment and reposition.
- Identify when a flap is out of position and reposition.
- Identify when stick blocks are out of position and reposition.
- Identify when a tray sensor needs to be adjusted and reposition.
- Identify when a tray stop pin needs to be adjusted and escalate to maintenance.
- Adjust rails to ensure trays are in position and transition properly.
- Adjust/replace photo eyes and sensors (plug and play only)
- Replace Dip Robot finger springs
- Assist Maintenance with Cake Pop Line PMs at least 2 days a month.
- Assist Maintenance with 2 Cake Pop Line Setups, Tare Downs or a combination of the two per month
- Disassemble and reassemble Dip Robot chocolate pumps and pipes.
- Fill Dip Station hot water system and purge out air.
- Disassemble and Install fabric and plastic belts.
- Tighten loose fasteners
- Understand the uses of various hand tools and be able to safely use them. List includes: allen wrenches, socket wrenches and drivers, needle nose pliers, open ended/box wrenches, spanner wrenches, screw drivers.
- Must have already successfully performed in a Production Lead role for at least 6 months.
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred.
- Ability to read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
- Ability to communicate in English and write correspondence.
- Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to leads, supervisors and R&D
- MATHEMATICAL SKILLS - Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
- Flexibility to work various and extended hours and shifts.
- Demonstrated strong supervision and teamwork.
