Dessert Holdings is looking for a Project Engineer to join our team based in Aurora, CO. Project Engineer is responsible for Engineering Capital projects and for identifying, vetting, and championing new manufacturing opportunities and new or emerging technical advancements, as assigned, for the Dessert Holdings manufacturing cheesecake facilities primarily, but could expand to our layered cake platform also. This position requires strong personal initiative to identify opportunities, achieve engineering standardization and implementing asset and process best practices within the Dessert Holdings manufacturing facilities. Key Responsibilities
- Provide engineering counsel and leadership at the plant level for the Aurora and Pembroke facilities.
- Manage and execute all facets of Dessert Holdings capital projects such as building expansions, capacity expansion including brownfield and greenfield projects.
- Identifies and champions cost reductions projects (capital and non-capital) through process or equipment improvements, capital automation and robotic opportunities.
- Aid in evaluating new business and line extensions.
- Evaluates and develops engineering projects for the facility. This includes prioritizing the plant’s needs, developing a 3/5-Year Capital Plan and its implementation. Including originating capital appropriation requests, developing project schedules and work teams, writing of contracts, coordinating project activities, controlling project funds, and implementing startup/training procedures as necessary.
- Provides leadership in the strategy development and oversees successful implementation of the capital plans, as assigned.
- Write capital project as assigned that include preparation of studies, proposals, estimates, technical reports, capital required, cash flow on approved CEA format.
- Assist in the development and implementation of new facility planning and construction. Includes developing packages, creating equipment and construction specifications, establishing and tracking project budgets, utility utilization, EPA and OSHA requirements, knowledge of GMP's, writing and justifying projects.
- Administer outside vendor, architects, and engineers creating project bid documents and assisting facilities in rewarding contracts.
- Through both direct and indirect resources, manages, leads and is responsible for the successful outcome of engineering plans, as assigned.
- Recommends equipment/processing systems’ modifications and/or replacement to improve plant performance.
- Remains up to date on technology as it pertains to the plant’s operation.
- Prepare and submit engineering reports as necessary.
- Creates and maintains the appropriate engineering records including equipment records and manuals, drawings and diagrams, inspection reports and legal records as required by the appropriate agencies.
- Regular attendance to the plant office but must be willing to relocate for promotional opportunities.
- Maintains effective communications with the appropriate people both within and outside of the plant.
- Work closely with outside agencies in their respective fields, i.e., OSHA, EPA, FDA, etc., to ensure plant compliance with current regulations.
- Performs other various duties and special projects as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering preferred not required. (Equivalent Technical degree or experience considered)
- 3-5 years of leading engineering projects.
- Project management experience.
- Hands on approach to problem solving with creative solutions.
- Ability to balance team and individual responsibilities which fosters group commitments to goals and objectives.
- Understand business implications of decisions, aligns work with strategic goals.
- Ability to prioritize and plan work activities, set goals, timelines and objectives.
- Display original thinking, creativity and resourcefulness which generate innovative approaches and ideas and can create and drive automation opportunities including robotic manufacturing capability.
- Possess leadership skills and the ability to effectively manage and communicate with engineers, construction personnel, project managers, clients and executives.
- Demonstrated proficiency in Word, Excel, Gantt, Power Point, Auto CAD, and project planners.
- Knowledge in electrical, mechanical, refrigeration systems.
- Knowledge of six sigma and Lean Manufacturing principles.
