What are the responsibilities and job description for the Investment Associate position at StevenDouglas?
Position: Investment Associate
Location: Miami Beach, FL
About the Firm:
We are a privately held family office with over $2 billion in assets, investing with the rigor, structure, and long-term perspective of a traditional private equity firm. Our permanent capital base and lack of a required exit timeline give us unique access to compelling opportunities and the flexibility to support sustainable value creation. We focus on control-oriented investments in established, cash-flowing businesses across a range of sectors. Our strategy emphasizes identifying value in overlooked or transitional situations, partnering with management teams, and driving long-term growth. Our core portfolio includes five global businesses—four of which are publicly traded, with family members serving on their boards and in advisory roles—and one privately held enterprise in which we hold a 60% stake. Beyond these, we have capital allocated across a range of real estate projects and other passive investments. Across our active portfolio, we are deeply involved in M&A execution, capital planning, investor relations, tax strategy, IT infrastructure, and other key strategic initiatives.
Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly motivated Investment Associate to join our lean and collaborative value-creation team. This is a unique opportunity to work directly with senior decision-makers and gain exposure to all aspects of the investment lifecycle — from sourcing and due diligence to portfolio management and value creation. The ideal candidate will have at least 1.5 years of investment banking experience with a strong focus on M&A, and a demonstrated interest in private investing.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support all aspects of the investment process, including opportunity review, sourcing, tracking, due diligence, financial modeling, and transaction execution
- Conduct market research, competitive analysis, and identify investment theses
- Build and maintain detailed financial models, including LBO and operating models
- Prepare investment memos and materials for internal decision-making
- Monitor and support portfolio companies, including analysis, performance tracking and involvement in strategic initiatives
- Work closely with internal team members and external advisors, management teams, and partners
- Prepare presentations related to above activities for internal and external review
Qualifications:
- 1.5-4 years of experience in investment banking and/or consulting, with a strong preference for M&A transaction experience
- Strong analytical and modeling skills, with attention to detail
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
- Self-starter with a strong work ethic and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment
- Genuine interest in private investing and long-term value creation
- Bachelor’s degree from a top-tier institution; MBA not required
