Position Overview :
The Safety Manager will be responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing safety programs and policies within a meat manufacturing and production facility. The role will specifically emphasize transportation safety and risk management to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, while protecting the health and well-being of employees and ensuring the safe movement of goods.
Key Responsibilities :
Safety Program Development and Implementation :
Develop, implement, and continuously improve the company’s safety programs, focusing on both the production floor and transportation operations.
Ensure compliance with OSHA, FDA, USDA, and other relevant regulations specific to meat production and transportation.
Conduct regular safety audits to assess risks, identify hazards, and recommend corrective actions.
Ensure all safety equipment and personal protective equipment (PPE) are available, properly maintained, and used according to company policies.
Transportation Safety and Risk Management :
Manage transportation safety programs, ensuring drivers, fleet operations, and logistics teams comply with regulatory safety standards (DOT, FMCSA, etc.).
Work closely with transportation teams to reduce accidents and prevent transportation-related injuries.
Conduct regular driver safety training, including defensive driving, hazard recognition, and emergency response protocols.
Oversee vehicle inspections and maintenance programs to ensure safe and efficient transportation of products.
Collaborate with risk management teams to assess and mitigate potential risks related to logistics, vehicle maintenance, and fleet operations.
Training and Employee Engagement :
Develop and conduct safety training programs for all employees, including production staff, warehouse workers, and drivers.
Promote a safety-first culture and engage employees in safety initiatives and continuous improvement efforts.
Ensure all employees understand safety protocols, including safe lifting techniques, hazard communication, machine safety, and safe driving practices.
Compliance and Regulatory Adherence :
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations related to workplace safety, environmental standards, and transportation safety.
Coordinate with regulatory agencies during inspections and audits.
Maintain records for compliance and reporting purposes.
Risk Assessment and Mitigation :
Perform risk assessments and hazard analysis on both the production floor and within transportation / logistics processes.
Work with management to implement policies that minimize financial risk, including insurance claims and workplace-related costs.
Qualifications :
Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health, or related field (preferred).
5-7 years of experience in safety management, with a focus on manufacturing or transportation safety.
Food Production / Manufacturing experience highly preferred
Bilingual highly preferred
Strong knowledge of OSHA, DOT, and FMCSA regulations, particularly as they relate to manufacturing and transportation industries.
Proven experience in risk management, incident investigation, and safety program development.
Certifications such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Occupational Health and Safety Technologist (OHST) are highly desirable.
Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
Ability to work well under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
