Full Time
- Treat all students, staff, parents and others encountered on the job with respect, compassion and patience.
- Assist teacher in:
- Maintaining classroom organization, including light janitorial duties.
- Providing support in an inclusion setting.
- Reinforcing previously taught concepts as prescribed by the teacher in an individual or small group setting.
- Preparing teaching materials, performing clerical responsibilities and making bulletin boards under teacher direction.
- Perform and maintain positive behavior management techniques as directed by the teacher, i.e. supervising time out, manage conflicts between students including physically aggressive students, enforcing classroom and school rules, providing close supervision, and motivating students.
- Helping to implement and carry out IEP and BIP goals for students.
- Follow district, building, and departmental policies and procedures.
- Maintain staff and student information confidentiality.
- Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, staff, school property, and self.
- Participate in community outings including use of the Oshkosh Public Transportation System.
- Assist with the personal care/self-help skills:
- Feeding
- Diapering and toileting.
- Hygiene - washing, nose wiping, etc.
- Dressing.
- Transfer, lift, and position students into standers, walkers, wheelchairs etc. as trained/directed by the therapists and/or teacher.
- Assist with Augmentative Communication/Assistive Technology (including assisting students with computer programs).
- Work with, direct and provide input back to the teacher when working with student teachers, volunteers, field experience students, and substitute teachers.
- Assist specialists - art, music, physical education, media and speech, occupational and physical therapists.
- Assist with supervision outside the classroom, i.e. hallways, lunchroom, recess, etc.
- Assist with the instruction of students with disabilities, both individually and in small groups.
- Supervise and assist with bus loading and unloading and possible transfer of students.
- Administer medications and general first aid in accordance with school district policy.
- Adhere to schedules and/or daily lesson plans.
- Maintain open communication with the classroom teacher.
- Program Instructional Assistance; individual tutoring, small and large group supervision, observation reports, practice and guide lessons introduced by teacher.
- Encourage and model appropriate behavior.
- Kompas Care billing.
- Supervise and proctor exams when needed.
- All other duties as assigned.
1. Experience working with children in a structured setting preferred.
2. Experience in building relationships with students and families with different cultural backgrounds is preferred.
3. Ability to work with students who demonstrate cognitive disabilities, emotional/behavioral problems, or developmental delays preferred.
