Job Description: The School District of Baraboo is seeking a Director of Food Service beginning immediately. A competitive salary and benefit package will be offered commensurate with qualifications and experience. This position holds a 260 working days contract. The Director of Food Service is responsible to plan, organize and direct the District food service program, including school lunch, breakfast, and special food service offerings. This department leader will also need to plan, organize and implement operational procedures designed to ensure a cost effective and cost beneficial operational mode, and serve as a resource to District personnel and the educational community concerning nutritional education and appropriate child dietary needs. Duties of the Director of Food Service generally include sanitation, food safety, nutrition and menu planning, food production, facility layout and design, procurement, financial management, recordkeeping, program accountability, marketing, customer service, and personnel management. This administrator position is also part of the District’s leadership team, who work together to address operational challenges and improve student success throughout the District. Qualifications: To effectively lead the food service department, this director needs to possess the following knowledge and abilities: Knowledge of principles, procedures, methods, techniques and strategies relative to the management of a comprehensive food service program. Knowledge of nutrition, dietary values, proper food combinations and economic food substitutes. Knowledge of legal mandates, policies, regulations and guidelines pertaining to a food service program , including the requirements of the National School Lunch Act. Knowledge of practices, methods, procedures and strategies of management, organization and supervision. Knowledge of safe and sanitary working methods and procedures. Ability to effectively and efficiently plan, organize and direct the functions and activities of a comprehensive food service program. Ability to develop product and service specifications. Ability to direct and coordinate the preparation of menus which create a balanced and nutritious diet for children of various age levels. Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written form.
Requirements: Candidate should possess a Bachelor’s Degree with an academic major or concentration in food and nutrition, food service management, dietetics, family and consumer sciences, nutrition education, culinary arts, business, or a related field. Qualified candidates should also have experience coordinating and directing a comprehensive food service program, with preferred experience in a school district or large commercial operation.
