Education Support- Paraprofessional
DESCRIPTION OF BASIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under general supervision, The Education Support helps facilitate the agency’s objectives by providing direct care and person-centered support to the youth in our programs. As an integral part of the behavior support team, the Behavior Specialist effects positive behavioral change in youth by providing evidence-based interventions to youth and families, collaborating with other professionals, and complying with Federal, State, County and School policies, regulations and/or procedures.
SUPERVISOR: Behavior Interventionist
MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Co-teaching lessons under teacher’s guidance, leading small groups, or individual instruction and discussion, and reviewing classwork
Organizing the classroom and teaching materials, monitoring the classroom during lessons, and minimizing distractions and disruptions
Supervising students in and out of the classroom
Attending to students’ physical, personal, academic, and emotional needs
Performing clerical duties, such as tracking student attendance, typing, filing, photocopying, and grading test and homework
Ensuring the upkeep of educational materials, equipment, and supplies
Attend IEP meetings at the request of EDU director, teacher or parent
Demonstrates knowledge of the curriculum content for classes in which s/he assists
Willingly participates in skill and competency trainings and in-services
Monitor and assist students as needed in their daily routines across classroom activities and/or settings
Initiate and follow through with behavioral interventions as designated and demonstrated by the classroom teacher
Lead and/or facilitate teaching of individuals in 1:1, small group, or whole class instruction
Assist individual students as necessary to follow routines, follow directions, follow an individual schedule, and/or complete tasks
Monitor students at all times
Meet students in the morning to unload buses and assist with loading or unloading as necessary
Maintains appropriate documentations for each youth. This includes but not limited to: daily documentation, Incident Reports, HI/SI Reports, Accident reports, etc.
Adhering to each Youth Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP) that is compliant with Federal, State, and Local law/guidelines.
Participates in family and youth outreach opportunities, including but not limited to Family Night
Adhere to HIPPA guidelines and maintain respect and confidentiality for all children and families
Any additional tasks given by Supervisor to strengthen our program
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES & OTHER CHARACTERISTICS: Knowledge of:
Environmental and social/emotional issues that impact Youth success.
Ability to:
Engage in relationship-building strategies with at-risk youth and parents to identify strategies to achieve long term goals.

Engage with youth in various outings, community resource fairs/job fairs and community.
Maintain confidentiality of all youth and staff in the program
Active engagement with each client in the assigned program.

Independently lift 40 pounds
Capable of transferring and positioning students
Work with physically aggressive students
Willingness to work in nontraditional settings with youth who may require additional individualized support to be successful.
Display and maintain an appropriate level of professionalism when conducting work for the agency.
