We are seeking a compassionate and skilled School Counselor for our middle and high school students (grades 6-12) to provide comprehensive counseling services that promote academic success, career readiness, and personal well-being.
Position Overview
The Grades 6-12 School Counselor will provide essential support to students as they navigate academic challenges, social-emotional development, and postsecondary planning. This position is aligned with Wisconsin DPI standards and will work closely with educators, families, and community resources to ensure student success.
As part of this role, the counselor will help implement the CharacterStrong curriculum, a research-based program that focuses on developing strong character, emotional intelligence, and leadership skills in students.

- Grade Level Assignment: Grades 6-12
Key Responsibilities
- Implement a comprehensive school counseling program in accordance with Wisconsin DPI regulations and ASCA (American School Counselor Association) model standards.
- Provide individual and group counseling to address academic, career, and social-emotional needs.
- Guide students through academic planning, course selection, and postsecondary preparation, including ACP (Academic and Career Planning).
- Lead and support the implementation of the CharacterStrong curriculum to foster a positive school culture, strong character, and social-emotional learning (SEL).
- Assist students in developing skills for mental health awareness, conflict resolution, emotional regulation, and decision-making.
- Support college and career readiness programs, including career exploration, scholarship applications, and financial aid guidance.
- Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and parents to develop intervention strategies for student success.
- Identify and address barriers to learning by providing referrals to community-based services and mental health resources.
- Support SEL (Social-Emotional Learning), and trauma-informed practices.
- Assist with crisis response and intervention, including suicide prevention, mental health support, and threat assessments.
- Maintain compliance with state and federal laws, including confidentiality and ethical standards of counseling practice.
- At the senior high level, complete course/credit evaluations for students in their senior year of high school and monitor each senior’s previous courses and credits in reference to district graduation requirements.
- At each mid-quarter and grading period, determine those students with course, grade or credit deficiencies and advise parents and students, accordingly.
- Assist and/or coordinate the annual preparation of the course of studies catalogs and other registration materials.
- Conduct the annual group registration process of students in grades six through eleven, including advising students and parents of course selection, graduation requirements and curriculum sequence.
- Register and develop class schedules for students who are new to the district on an individual basis.
- Provide small group and class presentations regarding the learning, personal, social, career and vocational needs of students.
- At the senior high level, present information and materials regarding college and vocational/technical college admission standards and application procedures, assist with the application process; advise regarding financial aid and scholarship opportunities and application procedures. This is also made available at the junior high level, on request.

Position Requirements:
- Master’s degree in School Counseling or equivalent
- Valid Wisconsin DPI School Counselor License (#7054) or eligibility for licensure.
- Strong knowledge of Wisconsin Model Academic Standards for School Counseling.
- Experience in academic advising, postsecondary planning, and mental health counseling for grades 6-12.
- Commitment to character education and social-emotional learning, with experience or willingness to implement CharacterStrong.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse student populations, staff, and families.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in a middle or high school counseling setting.
- Training in ACP (Academic and Career Planning), SEL, and trauma-informed care.
- Familiarity with college and career readiness programs, such as dual enrollment, apprenticeships, and workforce development initiatives.
