Job Summary: Stevenson School is seeking a reliable and safety-conscious Bus Driver to transport students to and from school and other designated locations. This part-time position requires a valid California Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with a Passenger Endorsement and a California School Bus Driver's Certificate.
Responsibilities:
- Drive a designated school vehicle within a prescribed route(s) in accordance with schedules, picking up and discharging students at designated stops
- Transport students and teachers on field trips to various locations
- Ensure a safe environment by maintaining orderly conduct of all passengers
- Conduct daily safety and operational inspection of assigned vehicle
- Service buses with gas, diesel fuel, and oil; check, fill tires and batteries
- Perform periodical safety drills as required by law; completing necessary reports
- Maintain cleanliness of vehicle to ensure safe operating condition
- Complete periodic mileage and other reports including passenger counts
- Attend meetings regarding safety, first aid, and training updates as required
- Attend driver-training programs to maintain current knowledge of California Motor Vehicle Code and the Education Code as it applies to the operation of vehicles in the transportation of students
- Operate a two-way radio
- Wash bus as needed
- When not engaged in driving responsibilities, support facilities department by completing tasks outside of the transportation department, as assigned
Requirements:
- Possession of a valid California Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with a Passenger Endorsement
- Possession of a California School Bus Driver's Certificate
- Must be able to comply with all provisions of the DOT Regulation 49 CFR Parts 40 and 382, including random drug and alcohol testing
- Minimum of High School Diploma or equivalent
- Ability to drive a school bus safely and efficiently
- Ability to maintain valid certification as school bus driver according to state regulations
- 6 months of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities preferred
- Bilingual English/Spanish language ability preferred
- Knowledge of the provisions of the California Motor Vehicle Code and the Education Code as applied to the operation of vehicles used in the transport of children
- Knowledge of basic first aid practices, procedures, and techniques
- Knowledge of safe driving practices
- Ability to understand and carry out both oral and written instructions
- Ability to establish and maintain proper student conduct on school vehicle
- Ability to exercise good judgment and extreme caution while driving
- Ability to meet the physical requirements necessary to safely and effectively perform required duties
- Must pass a background check
- Ability to work without supervision or as part of a team
- Willingness and enthusiasm to engage in a diverse community
