Assistant Field Technician
Summary:
The Assistant Athletic Field Technician is responsible for undertaking and completing routine and special projects for athletic fields and areas related to athletics. Work is of a special nature that requires in-depth knowledge of athletic fields and grounds maintenance. The Athletic Field Technician will determine and schedule all tasks required to keep the athletic fields in peak condition.

Education/Experience:
Bachelors Degree in turf management or related field plus one year of experience and CPR and AED certification or equivalent combination of education and experience. Valid driver license and a good driving record; must be insurable.
Knowledge/Skills/Ability:
Knowledge of athletic fields and ground maintenance. Ability to drive tractors and mowing equipment. General knowledge and usage of hand and power tools associated with the grounds maintenance field. Ability to practice effective verbal communication skills with faculty, staff, and students. Ability to read, understand and abide by all safety policies and procedures. Knowledge in the general care and maintenance of university facilities. Ability to visually assess condition of athletic fields and its equipment. Ability to respond to emergency calls 24 hours a day and be available to work evenings and weekends as scheduled. Ability to travel between campuses.
Physical Requirements:
Heavy Work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Talking, hearing, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, standing, walking, lifting, reaching, pushing, pulling, keyboarding, and grasping. Visual acuity to perform an activity such as operations of machines; using measurement devices; and/or visual inspections of small parts or devices. Subject to both environmental conditions. Activities occur inside and outside. Subject to hazards, noise, extreme cold and oils
Essential Functions:
Responsible for maintenance and preparation of all athletic fields. Performs specialized work on baseball, softball, and soccer fields. Maintains fields in a high quality manner. Prepares athletic fields for play including striping, dragging and leveling fields, lay sod, repair worn out turf, spread seed, apply fertilizer, top dress and control weeds, properly level and maintain pitcher mounds and batter boxes. Monitor and maintain field lips and edges, prior to each season. Schedules maintenance on all athletic fields, working with Athletic Field Team. Assist with the supervision of regular, contract and/or seasonal employees. Assists with related special event preparation, operation and clean-up as required. Maintains and conducts safety inspections of Athletics facilities. Maintains inventory of athletic field maintenance items and equipment Inspects athletic fields and keeps documentation of all inspections. Maintains and programs irrigation systems. Schedule off-season work on athletic fields to make the playing seasons more successful. Operates and maintains the appearance of hand tools, power equipment, trucks, tractors, heavy equipment, landscaping equipment, snow removal equipment and other equipment pertaining to this position. Perform general maintenance duties as assigned when not performing athletic field responsibilities.
