Position Summary

This is a full-time, 9-month, open-rank, campus-based faculty position in the Brown School of Business and Leadership (BSOBL) with responsibilities for teaching face-to-face undergraduate accounting classes, course development, student advising and mentoring, service to the school, department, and university, and continued scholarship in the field. Teaching responsibilities include 24-30 contact hours per academic year, commensurate with rank. Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to, student recruitment, retention, and placement, and engagement in the life of the university. The Full-Time Faculty, Accounting fulfills all responsibilities of a full-time faculty member as defined in the Stevenson University Policies and the BSOBL Full-Time Faculty Job Description. Rank and title will be determined at the time of hiring and will be commensurate with education and experience.

Education / Experience

A doctorate in Accounting or a related field is preferred, candidates with a Master's Degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or related field along with professional certification such as CPA or CMA will be considered. Practical accounting experience in public accounting, business, non-profit, or government accounting, and prior college-level teaching experience are strongly preferred.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including PowerPoint, Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Physical Requirements

Light work : Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and / or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Sitting, standing, walking, talking, hearing, keyboarding, and repetitive motions. Close visual acuity. Position requires sitting and standing for extended periods of time and the ability to speak clearly and effectively for an extended period of time.

Essential Functions

Instructional

  • Teach 24-30 contact hours per year, commensurate with rank, as assigned (12 contact hours / semester at the Assistant Professor or higher rank and 15 contact hours / semester as a Lecturer).
  • Teaching responsibilities include time spent in face-to-face courses, laboratories, or other instructional spaces and in immediate preparation for them; preparing teaching materials; conferring with and providing timely feedback to students on course-related matters; directing individual and group studies; reviewing projects and papers; evaluating assignments, examinations, presentations, and other course work in a timely manner; and submitting mid-term and final grades by the established deadlines. Stevenson University uses the Blackboard course management system.
  • Other instructional responsibilities include writing and / or updating syllabi each semester or term; reading and responding to emails in a timely manner; completing attendance verification, academic alerts, and other reports as requested; and alerting appropriate university personnel to student concerns on a timely basis.
  • Maintain teaching effectiveness by encouraging active student learning, reflecting and responding to student evaluations of teaching, and adjusting teaching strategies per recommendations from classroom observations, Faculty Mentoring and Evaluation Committee (FMEC), and supervisor evaluations.
  • Offer quality advising services to students, including providing recommendations and resources to students on academic, co-curricular, career, and / or graduate school matters.
  • Schedule and hold at least three office hours per week.
  • Participate in general curriculum development, assessment, and other departmental activities associated with a full-time University faculty position.
  • Every faculty member is guaranteed academic freedom in accordance with the statement on academic freedom and responsibilities of faculty members, as stated in the University's policies.
  • Teaching assignments may require teaching day or evening classes, as needed.
  • Service

  • Department service includes contributing to student recruitment, retention, and registration efforts; participating in Open Houses, Accepted Students Days, and other recruiting efforts; attending and participating in planning and coordination of departmental events; and establishing industry relationships to generate internship and full-time placement opportunities for students.
  • Participate on University, School, and Departmental committees.
  • Participate in Department, School, and University assessment activities, including, but not limited to, annual assessment of courses and periodic assessments of programs for University and / or accreditation purposes.
  • Mentor and advise new faculty.
  • Serve on Faculty Mentoring and Evaluation Committee(s) as requested.
  • Attend all convocations and commencement exercises.
  • Attend all University Faculty, Faculty / Staff, and relevant academic Department / School meetings.
  • Scholarly Activity

  • Engage in professional scholarly activities to keep current in the field.
  • Develop and maintain independent intellectual pursuits, including research and scholarly activities that enhance teaching effectiveness.
  • Attend professional development workshops, seminars, and conferences.
  • Pursue internal and external funding sources to support scholarly activities.
  • Pursue and maintain relevant professional license(s) and / or certification(s).
